The Saturday market in Forsyth Park hosts between 30-60 vendors each week and almost 3,000 customers. 912 Food Farmacy is a produce prescription program operated by FFM. In coordination with four community clinics in Savannah, we provide fresh, seasonal produce and associated nutrition education to food insecure community members at risk for nutrition related chronic disease.

Candidates should have good organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal/communication skills. They should have an excellent record in customer service and a familiarity and passion for local, seasonal food and food assistance/incentive work. Comfort using Microsoft and Google products (Excel/Sheets; Word/Docs; etc) as well as customer relationship software is highly preferred. They must be comfortable with physical work and able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly.

Market Requirements:

The Assistant Market Manager is required to be on-site from the start of setup until the last vendor leaves the market (generally 7 am -2:30 p.m.). There are also a few hours of paperwork prior to and following each market. The Assistant Manager will also enroll the public in SNAP and will have full responsibility of Youth Booth. 

Market Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist Market Manager in achieving market goals, including but not limited to merchandising, social media and fundraising.
  • Update market forms and maintain vendor information annually.
  • Assist in the vendor application process and paperwork, selection of vendors, as well as host new vendor training.
  • Communicating pertinent information with vendors for the weekly market and grant funding/education opportunities. This includes, but is not limited to the weekly vendor email.
  • Responsible for maintaining market inventory, including merchandise, essential supplies, and print materials.
  • Oversee all financial transactions at the market and ensure all financial reporting is accurately completed.
  • Maintain the market information booth professionally and interact with customers and neighbors appropriately.
  • Work with other employees and volunteers, set up and tear down all signage, tables, and displays and any other equipment for the market.
  • Serve as a point of contact for customers, vendors, community spotlights, and volunteers.
  • Ensure all vendors are following rules set by the Forsyth Farmers Market as well as any pertinent local, state, or federal laws.
  • Act as the liaison between FFM and the vendor committee (composed of board members and volunteers), including communication, scheduling meetings, etc.
  • Attend vendor and market committee meetings, attend farm tours and visit vendor brick and mortar locations (where applicable).
  • Other related assignments as necessary.

SNAP Responsibilities Include:

  • Train to enroll the public in SNAP
  • Offer SNAP enrollment services on site at the Saturday Market once per month
  • Follow up with snap clients about needs, set appointments, send list of required documents, help with applications

Youth Booth Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with schools to promote Youth Booth engagement
  • Select weekly featured produce, create newsletters/recipe cards/ etc. and print each week
  • Source Youth Booth volunteers, or work with Market Manager to rotate staffing the booth
  • Send weekly reminders via text to participating families; send monthly newsletter via email to participating families

912 Food Farmacy Requirements:

The 912 Food Farmacy Educator is required to be on-site and to provide a recipe demonstration at each of the 4 English speaking clinics during the months of March-October.  This role requires evening hours (generally 4pm-6pm) and adequate preparation time for class. The applicant must be comfortable cooking in a group setting and be inclusive and culturally sensitive when speaking with people of diverse backgrounds.

FF Educator Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop curriculum and associated materials for education courses, in conjunction with program manager and any other contributors.
  • Attend planning and strategy meetings with clinic partners 
  • Communicate with program participants to concisely describe the program and incentive usage.
  • Lead nutrition education classes on site for each English-speaking clinic location.
  • Work with program manager and Farm Truck 912 staff to ensure foods highlighted in education courses are local, seasonal, and available for participant purchase at either the Forsyth Farmers’ Market and on Farm Truck 912
  • Ensure curriculum is age appropriate and can be modified for all age and ability levels
  • Seek out and complete professional development opportunities to excel as  Nutrition Educator.
  • Assist program manager in assigning card numbers and creating initial spreadsheet, and tracking incentives as needed
  • Assist program evaluator in survey and data associated with participants as required by grant and evaluator criteria, and communicate regularly with the evaluation team
  • Contribute to grant writing/fundraising efforts to ensure the sustainability of the program.
  • Other related assignments as necessary.

Part time from $20.00 per hour
