Company description
The Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 1996 that owns and operates the nearly 13-acre certified organic farm in the heart of Goleta, California surrounded by a community of residents and businesses. The land is permanently protected by an agricultural conservation easement held by the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County.
For generations, Fairview Gardens Farm, one of the longest continuously operated agricultural operations in the Goleta Valley, has fed the urban populations that now surround it, educated and inspired young people about food and farming, trained numerous successful farmers, and provided a gathering place for music and cultural events.
Job description
Basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, chainsaw, and mechanics skills preferred. Must be able to work independently and solve problems creatively.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Basic maintenance and repairs of buildings and farm infrastructure
- Maintenance and repairs of equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, etc.
- Mowing and weed-whacking as needed
- Maintaining and creating a clean and organized environment
- Occasional tree work
- Minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs and projects
- Maintaining maintenance and repair logs
- Operating tractors, trucks and other equipment
- Soliciting outside support for repairs when needed
Qualifications:
- Must have a valid, in-state driver’s license and clean driving record
- Basic Spanish language skills would be beneficial
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job which may include lifting and carrying up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to accommodate occasional off-hours when needed including nights and weekends.

Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $30.00 - $40.00
