Description:
We’re seeking a Cafe Chef for our high-volume cafes + markets located in Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights. Our cafe is supported by a lovely local community + we serve primarily repeat customers. This is a fast-paced, collaborative + ego-free environment.
The Cafe Chef serves as the liaison between the culinary teams + the General Manager. This is a culinary role with some administrative responsibilities + lots of learning opportunities. The right candidate is detail-oriented, organized + passionate about Poppy’s seasonal and local food philosophy.
Requirements:
- 1-2 years of culinary management experience
- Ability to split time between both cafe locations and manage BOH staff
- Familiarity and focus on seasonal cooking and local produce
- Develop recipes for seasonal changes to our salad and sandwich menu 4-6 times per year and incorporate seasonal specials
- Ability to collaborate with the culinary team to craft seasonal menus and assist in the organization and planning of pop-up events and seasonal dinner series
- Responsible for all ordering for BOH + some retail items
- Responsible for scheduling BOH cafe teams
- DOH food handler’s license required
- Coordinate and schedule maintenance
- Manage kitchen inspection calendar
- Communicate daily with our Culinary Director, the production team, and the delivery team to coordinate the transportation of inventory and products
- Strong administrative, organizational, and writing skills
- Assist in the kitchen daily to execute prep and assembly of items
- Assisting with training cooks on systems (i.e., labeling, organizing, consolidating, updating inventory, etc.)
- Some weekend availability is required

- This is a full-time, salaried position

- 2 weeks of paid vacation per year
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $50,000 - $75,000
