Job description

Our Education and Events Manager develops and delivers impactful, relevant and responsive programs including in-person and virtual classes and events such as our triennial educational event, Camp Bread. They work with our partners and sponsors to develop collaborative educational offerings and develop Guild education for industry events such as IBIE and the Bakery Showcase. In addition, the Manager oversees our Artisan Baker Certification Program which establishes and measures the skills of professional artisan bakers through written and practical testing.

Through their work, our Education and Events Manager creates opportunities for our members to improve their baking practices, strengthen their bakery businesses and create community with other bakers and bakery owners.

Primary Responsibilities

Cultivate a diverse and inclusive roster of talented and experienced instructors to teach in-person and virtual classes and at events

Curate ideas and content for classes and programs in our four mission pillars:

• Craft- technique-driven skills, rooted in artisan principles and representative of global baking traditions
• Culture- respect for both tradition and innovation in processes, ingredients, products and equipment and for the people who make baking their living
• Community- cultivating a network of supportive professionals
• Careers- looking at jobs and entrepreneurship with an aim to keep bakers committed to our dynamic industry

Develop and coordinate educational events with our partners and sponsors

Cultivate and manage a program committee of members who provide guidance and support

Coordinate all logistical activities related to classes and events including:

• Develop and manage contracts with instructors
• Secure spaces around the country for classes and events
• Support instructors with A/V needs for virtual classes
• Develop best practices and systems for producing video recordings of virtual classes
• Moderate classes; provide timelines for instructors; edit formulas
• Procure ingredients, tools and equipment needed
• Communicate with instructors, students and facilities liaisons
• Manage volunteers for class support such as moderation, prep, breakdown, etc.
• Provide on-the-ground operational and programming support at important events throughout the year
• Conduct follow-ups including surveys, content sharing

Provide content about and from classes and events for Guild communication channels (social media, newsletter, Bread Lines) and marketing and promotions

Support development and management of a Guild education library

Coordinate activities related to the Artisan Baker Certification Program

• Outreach and recruitment
• Logistics and planning
• Follow up and outcome tracking

Desired Skills & Experience

• 2-3 years teaching and education experience
• 3-5 years professional baking experience
• Current baker and bakeries connections
• Superb written and verbal communication skills
• Strong administrative skills
• Detail-oriented, resourceful and proactive
• Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google platforms, and productivity software such as Slack and Asana
• Must be authorized to work in the US

Salary & Benefits

• $60-70K

• Flexible work culture

Full-time; exempt. Fully remote with the exception of in-person events. Mostly Monday-Friday, with some weekends and evenings. Some national and possibly international travel required.
