Recently, we’ve added a charming post-and-beam outdoor pavilion with a wood-fired oven, offering a unique space for gatherings and events.
Job description
We are looking for a dedicated, full-time Seasonal Livestock Assistant to join our team for the 2025 growing season. In this role, you will work closely with the Assistant Livestock Manager, Senior Farm Operations Manager, and other farm staff to care for and manage our diverse, pasture-raised livestock.
You’ll play a hands-on role in daily animal care, including feeding, health monitoring, rotational grazing, and ensuring the overall well-being of our livestock.
As a key member of the team, you will also contribute to the broader farm operation, providing support in various tasks such as rotational grazing, pasture management, and other farm-related duties as needed. This position requires flexibility, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, outdoor environment. This is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in a diversified farm, with an emphasis on livestock care but with exposure to small scale low tillage vegetable production.
As a Seasonal Livestock Assistant, you will actively work and receive hands-on training in a variety of essential farm tasks, including:
Livestock Care: Daily responsibilities include feeding, watering, observing, and moving our pasture-raised livestock—meat chickens, laying hens, pigs, turkeys, cattle and minor livestock through our rotational grazing systems.
Egg Collection & Hen Management: Collecting eggs and moving pastured hens to fresh grass daily to ensure optimal health and productivity.
Farm Maintenance: Using gas-powered equipment to pump water, mow, trim, and maintain vegetation across the farm.
Portable Fence Management: Setting up, maintaining, and frequently moving portable electric fences and chargers to ensure proper livestock rotation and pasture health.
Vegetable & Fruit Care: Assisting with planting, weeding, and harvesting crops as needed, depending on seasonal requirements.
Public & Volunteer Engagement: Interacting with volunteers, visitors, and the public, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a positive farm experience.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Experience: At least 1 year of experience in livestock or vegetable farming is preferred but not required.
Animal Care: A passion for working with animals and a strong commitment to their well-being.
Attitude & Work Ethic: Positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn new skills and take direction.
Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to follow through on tasks.
Problem-Solving: Creative and resourceful in solving problems efficiently and effectively.
Efficiency & Productivity: Understanding of how speed and efficiency contribute to the success of a farm operation.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly and perform physical labor for extended periods.
Equipment Operation: Experience operating power tools and mechanical equipment safely is required. Tractor experience is a plus but not essential.
Farm Skills: General carpentry, handiness, or any related skills are a plus.
Driving: A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required to fulfill job duites. Experience driving pickup trucks and small trailers is a plus.
Background Check: Must pass a CORI background check prior to employment due to work with children and volunteers.
