Currently, we have around 104 active undergraduate members and 1,250 graduate members. The Spee Club serves as a social space where members can network, host events, and socialize.

Job Overview:
The Spee Club of Harvard, a private club, seeks a talented and experienced Head Chef to lead its culinary operations. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate and creative chef to design and execute high-quality meals in a dynamic, private club setting. The Head Chef will be responsible for menu planning, food preparation, kitchen management, and ensuring a top-tier dining experience for both undergraduate and graduate members.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute creative, high-quality menus for club dining, special events, and private functions.
• Ensure consistency in food presentation and taste, maintaining the club’s reputation for excellence.
• Stay updated on culinary trends and incorporate innovative techniques while respecting classic dishes.
Kitchen Management:
• Oversee all aspects of daily kitchen operations, including food sourcing, preparation, and presentation.
• Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations, as well as dietary restrictions.
• Manage kitchen inventory, ordering, and cost control to minimize waste and optimize budget efficiency.
• Maintain kitchen equipment, ensuring proper functionality and cleanliness.
Team Leadership & Training:
• Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen staff to maintain a high standard of professionalism and efficiency.
• Foster a positive and collaborative kitchen culture, and promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Create staff schedules and delegate kitchen tasks to ensure smooth service.
Daily Meal Service & Event Catering:
• Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner on designated dates and for scheduled events.
• Plan and execute meals for special events, private dinners, and club gatherings in addition to regular meal service.
• Work closely with club management to tailor menus to specific occasions.
• Adapt to various service styles, including plated dinners, buffets, and cocktail receptions.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Proven experience as a Head Chef or Executive Chef, preferably in a private club, fine dining restaurant, or catering environment.
• Culinary degree or equivalent professional training preferred.
• Strong knowledge of diverse cuisines, ingredient sourcing, and modern cooking techniques.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on club events.
• Strong understanding of food cost control, budgeting, and inventory management.
Working Conditions:
• Hours: 10 or more hours per day, depending on business needs.
• Availability: Required to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on foot for extended periods.
• Extended Work Periods: Must be available to work up to six consecutive days if required by business needs.
• Seasonal Operations: The club operates on Harvard’s academic calendar. During school breaks, the Head Chef will be responsible for maintaining the club’s cleanliness, organizing the kitchen, and performing other duties as assigned by management.
• Vacation Policy: Vacation cannot be taken during Harvard’s academic year or during the club’s high business
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $75,000.00 - $90,000.00
