Job description
ABOUT THE ROLE
Azuluna’s Main farm, Woodstock Sustainable Farms is looking for a farm hand to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong interest in regenerative agriculture, a high standard of animal husbandry and an eagerness to learn and develop skills. The job and its daily responsibilities will vary depending on the season
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensuring adequate feed and water are provided to livestock and livestock guardian dogs
Assisting in the general care of livestock
Hoof trimming, vaccinations, breeding, birthing, medical treatments, etc.
Moving animals for rotational grazing
Assisting in the raising of chickens from chick to slaughter
Washing, grading and packaging eggs pursuant to Certified CT Processing Center
Daily logging of information pertaining to health and wellness of all livestock
Delivery of meats and eggs to Whole Foods and farm stores
Maintenance of pasture; weedwacking, mowing
Fencing work
Cutting and stacking firewood
Power washing and cleaning equipment
Maintenance of farm equipment
Farm repairs and maintenance
Daily communication with Farm Team
Additional tasks & duties as proscribed by Farm Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to lift 50lbs
Ability to work in all sorts of weather conditions: snow, rain, heat, etc.
Reliable transportation to work as we are based in a rural area with limited acess to public transportation
Ability to commute to Woodstock, CT
High school diploma
Language: English
Valid U.S. license - needed to fulfill job duties
Clean driving record - needed to operate company owned vehicles
Possession of or willingness to obtain DOT medical card
Preferred: previous experience with livestock (chickens, pigs, sheep)
Preferred: experience operating farm equipment including but not limited to: tractors, skid steers, utility vehicles and chainsaws
Preferred: Associates or bachelors degree in Animal Science or related field
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $16.00 - $20.00
