About us: Twin Sisters Mobile Market is a 501c3 nonprofit mobile farmers market. Our custom mobile farmers market truck delivers farm-fresh produce to three underserved, Whatcom County “food desert” locations. Our mission is to connect and strengthen Whatcom County farmers and communities by increasing access to fresh, nourishing food. TSM is a membership organization, governed by a Board of Directors composed of at least 50% farmer-members. Our membership of over 18 small, local businesses includes farmers, ranchers, fishers, and food processors.
Job description
The Executive Director (ED) provides leadership for TSM’s mission, values, programs, and operations. This role involves strategic planning, community engagement, fundraising, as well as financial and team management. The ED supervises the Market Manager and represents TSM in the community. This is a hybrid role with some shared office hours and market presence required.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and implement annual budgets and strategic plans in collaboration with the Board.
Evaluate programs and operations to ensure the organization is advancing its mission and maximizing its impact.
- Build partnerships to boost food access, grow sales, and increase the presence of the organization in local food systems work.
- Maintain clear communication with the Board and ensure alignment with our strategic plan.
Development and Fundraising
- Lead fundraising efforts, including writing grant proposals, cultivating relationships with major donors, securing business sponsors, and developing innovative revenue streams.
- Build a network of major donors and foundations by attending relevant meetings in the community and organizing fundraising events.
- Chart a course for the organization that builds fiscal health and reduces the reliance on grant funding over time.
Financial Management and Nonprofit Administration
- Lead budgeting and financial planning to ensure the organization operates sustainably.
- Manage budgets and financial reporting.Work with bookkeeper to ensure farmers and employees are paid on time.
- Manage day-to-day nonprofit administration tasks to ensure compliance with grants and regulatory agencies.
Communications and Community Relations
- Serve as the spokesperson for TSM, execute communications strategies, and delegate tasks relating to content creation on TSM’s website and social media channels.
- Build and sustain collaborative relationships with partner organizations, community leaders, and local agencies.
- Advocate for food system policies and initiatives aligned with TSM’s mission.
- Promote TSM at community events and meetings.
Staff Management
- Oversee direct and indirect reports including the Market Manager and Market Staff.
- Oversee market operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance with food safety standards and regulations.
- Hire, train, and manage staff and delegate tasks according to clearly delineated roles.
- Promote inclusive and effective communication across all stakeholders.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
- Implement DEI strategies in recruitment, programming and community outreach.
- Facilitate access to nutritious food in underserved communities and provide DEI training.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in food systems or nonprofit administration.
- 2–4 years of experience in nonprofit management, program development, or fundraising.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Compensation:
- Permanent, year-round, part-time position (20-hour/week).
- Pay range: $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience.
- Paid time off (PTO): This position includes paid sick leave in accordance with Washington State law, accruing at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.
- Mileage: Mileage reimbursement for work-related travel, following TSM's policy.

Requirements for Transportation and Physical Demands
This position requires a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation to travel to job sites, including market locations and community events. The Executive Director must have the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, be on their feet for long periods, and lift up to 50 pounds.
The hourly rate for this role is $25-$30 per hour, with the potential for a higher rate based on the Executive Director's ability to secure additional funding.
