The Point Breeze Community Market is an official farmer’s market that holds weekly Markets on Thursdays on Point Breeze Ave and Reed Street. Our goal is to provide a grocery story on the street experience, and in doing so, create better food options for our neighbors, more business opportunities on our commercial corridor, and he’ll grow a community of local growers and makers.
Qualifications:
Lives close to and who reflects the neighborhood of Point Breeze.
Experience in event planning, food systems, restaurant or retail management or a related field preferred.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a focus on quick and clear communication.
Ability to work independently and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with social media marketing and community outreach.
Passionate about farmers and community markets and the mission of improving food systems, community engagement, and innovation in the space.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Strong delegation skills, balancing leadership with the ability to take direction.
Kind and community-focused while maintaining firmness when necessary.
Job description
Overview: We are seeking a passionate and organized Market Manager to oversee the operations of our community market in Point Breeze. Our market launched in September 2024 with the goal of providing more food options for our neighbors and more commercial opportunities on our business corridor. We are an official farmer’s market registered with the city of Philadelphia. The Market will open on April, 3rd 2025 as a weekly market, 3 - 7pm every Thursday on Point Breeze Avenue and Reed Street.
The Market Manager will be responsible for coordinating vendors, ensuring a smooth market experience, promoting the market, and engaging with the community. They will work closely with and report to the Point Breeze Business Association (PBBA), collaborating to ensure the market’s success and alignment with broader neighborhood initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who values local food systems, community engagement, and small business development. The ideal candidate must live in or around South Philadelphia and have reliable transit access.
We are looking to build out a team of qualified individuals who can work together to build and execute all market operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop budgets and outline all anticipated and real expenses related to the operation and promotion of the PBCM.
Identify, develop, and confirm sponsorship, underwriting, and other sources of additional income to achieve cost recovery and maximize net income.
Recruit and screen farmers, vendors, and exhibitors to achieve the optimum mix benefiting attendees, vendors, and the Point Breeze community.
Ensure completion and maintenance of required paperwork and provide vendor information to PBBA upon request.
Establish and enforce market rules and vendor applications, conforming to the requirements of governing agencies.
Maintain farmer and vendor schedules and placement on a weekly basis with the goal of filling all market spaces while maintaining a curated selection of offerings..
Ensure customer service excellence on market days, while executing quick and clear communication throughout the week.
Develop and maintain the vendor placement and vendor map for market days.
Work with PBBA to create and implement a marketing strategy that will help drive customers and author a distinct voice.
Maintain PBCM website and social accounts and work with other contractors and volunteers to create content.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
