Company description
River Ridge Farm is a four-season, diversified fruit, vegetable, and cut flower farm entering its sixth year of production. We steward 114 acres across three locations, including an acre of greenhouse cultivation. Committed to low-till, organic practices, we prioritize soil health and sustainability to ensure the land’s vitality while producing high-quality, nutrient-dense food.
Healthy soil is the foundation of our work. By using minimal tillage, composting, and cover cropping, we cultivate resilient crops with exceptional flavor and nutrition. We harvest at peak ripeness, focusing on freshness and taste.
Our produce is available through our year-round farm store in Middletown, CT, a seasonal farm stand in Cheshire, 6–7 weekly farmers markets, and several wholesale accounts and distributors.
Exceptional service is at the core of everything we do. We believe exceptional service is important both internally with our staff, and externally with our customers. We encourage growth, embrace challenges as learning opportunities, and celebrate successes together.
Financial sustainability is vital to our mission, enabling us to reinvest in our team, expand our business, and give back to the community. Strong relationships are at the heart of River Ridge, from long-term partnerships with customers and suppliers to collaborations with like-minded farms and businesses.
River Ridge is also a place of learning—for staff, customers, and ourselves. Each season brings new challenges and lessons, fueling continuous growth and improvement.
More than a farm, River Ridge aims to be a hub for good food, community, and connection.
Job description
We’re looking for 4 enthusiastic, hard-working individuals to join our team this season. These positions are entry level positions where as part of the team, you’ll be involved in all aspects of farm production—from seeding and transplanting to harvesting and wash/pack operations. You will be exposed to nearly all aspects of our operation, and we are willing to help you focus on what interests you most. We are looking to hire 2 half-season (June-August), and 2 full season (April-October) staff members. Although these positions are slated for seasonal, there may be opportunities for year round employment, and upward mobility for the right candidate(s).
Tasks shift greatly with the seasons: spring focuses on greenhouse work and early field prep, summer brings peak harvests and cultivation, and fall is dedicated to winter crop preparation and maintenance. Our farm thrives on teamwork, efficiency, and clear communication.
The Expectations are as follows:
All In! We’re looking for individuals willing to commit to this work. We show up on time, with curiosity and dedication. We farm in comfort and discomfort (short of illness).
Production Mindset: Efficiency is key. Staying aware of the team’s pace, thinking a few steps ahead, and anticipating the next task ensures we stay on track. We aim to move with purpose and set ourselves up for success in every step.
Stay Present: Phones are primarily for taking photos and communicating with team members. Emergencies and necessary situations aside, work time is not for personal calls or messaging.
No Butts or Buts: We don’t sit unless absolutely necessary. Crawling, kneeling, squatting, walking, skipping, and running—all good. Sitting for extended periods? Not our style.
Clear Communication: Be as direct and clear as possible. We value a willingness to communicate, even when it’s hard.
Detail-Oriented: Attention to detail is essential, whether it’s ensuring quality in harvesting, thoroughly finishing a project, or knowing when it’s time to walk away.
Investment in Learning: We encourage curiosity. If you see something unfamiliar—mention it. Take time to learn and share your discoveries with the team.
Strong Teamwork: We’re all leaders on this farm. Your voice and impact matter, and collaboration is key to our production methods.
Self-Initiation: While we’re a small, close-knit team, self-direction is essential. Whether packing the harvest truck the night before or refilling supplies without being asked, finding a rhythm and taking initiative are crucial.
Community-Minded: Respect for each individual on our farm team and the broader community is non-negotiable.
Positivity, Patience, Flexibility: These traits help us roll with the ups and downs of farming life.
The Ideal Candidate:
Experience: One year or more of experience on a production farm will be prioritized, though we are fully prepared and willing to train on the job.
Physical Capacity: Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in all weather conditions
Strong Work Ethic: Self-motivation, efficiency, and attention to detail are key qualities.
