Head Chef - Pure Michigan
Situated in beautiful Northern Michigan on the third most beautiful lake in the world, The Torch Lake Yacht and Country Club is looking to hire a talented and dedicated Chef or Kitchen Manager for the Summer 2025 Season!
Our ideal candidate is professional, flexible, and able to provide casual lunches as well as regular dinners and some breakfasts to our membership, consisting of approximately 250 families. The Yacht Club is open from early summer through Labor Day; this is a seasonal, contracted position. A private lakefront cabin is provided for lodging.
We're looking for someone who:
- Is passionate about good food and customer service.
- Has experience in a high-volume kitchen, as a line cook or in a leadership position (Lead Cook, Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, Head Chef, etc.)
- Possess a culinary degree, though this is not required.
- Is comfortable working with a pre-set menu, with plenty of opportunities to provide creativity alongside Yacht Club staples.
- Has food safety certification and is able to comply with all local and state health department standards.
- Can manage and communicate clearly with a small staff, members of the Club Board of Directors, and the Club membership at large.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work in collaboration with the Kitchen Liaison to create a summer lunch and dinner menu.
- Execute lunch services, dinner service on select days of the week, and brunch service on Sunday (services are dependent on business volume throughout the season, the club is closed on Monday's).
- Complete ad hoc projects (private events, small catering orders, etc.) as requested.
- Conduct inventory, place orders (food and other goods) with approved vendors, and ensure proper invoice management.
- Work with the Kitchen Liason to manage labor and COGS goals.
- Manage a small team of kitchen and FOH staff, maintaining a positive and inclusive workplace at all times; provide training in basic kitchen and service skills as needed.
- Maintain clean and organized kitchen and dining room spaces, including all work areas, kitchen equipment, tools, waste areas, etc.
- Notify a member of the Board of Directors of any member/guest complaints when they occur; address or fix any issues as quickly as possible.
- Interact with members/guests professionally, helping them with changes and last-minute requests as needed.
- Adhere to all mandatory standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, memos, oral instructions, etc., all of which make up the essential functions of the job.

Compensation
