Coastal Roots Farm is located in Encinitas, CA on approximately 18 acres of land which we recognize as indigenous to the Kumeyaay and Luiseño peoples. Coastal Roots Farm was incubated by the Leichtag Foundation in 2014 and received 501(c)(3) public charity status in 2015.
Job description
Position: Post Harvest & Distribution Coordinator
Schedule: Sunday through Thursday
Hours: Full Time (40 hours per week)
Reports to: Post‐Harvest and Distribution Manager
Position Overview
The Farm’s Post-Harvest & Distribution Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Farm’s Organic Food Distribution Program. They will support all aspects of post-harvest operations and all food distribution efforts, and are essential to the on-the-ground operations to meet the Farm’s mission of serving over 30,000 community members. This position will be key to executing our post-harvest activities, including post-harvest handling, allocation of product, deliveries off-site, and all aspects of our pay-what-you-can Farm Stand.
This role is very forward facing and is integral in maintaining and stewarding strong and impactful relationships with our beneficiaries, community, and key partners. They will work directly under the Farm’s Post‐Harvest and Distribution Manager to ensure operations are efficiently completed with a primary focus on community impact. The Post-Harvest & Distribution Coordinator will lead and delegate tasks with the Farm Stand Associates team and community volunteers. Additionally, this position of high responsibility will work closely with the Director of Farm Production & Distribution, the Farm Production Manager, and the Community Farmers to ensure proper program implementation and cross-departmental collaboration. This position will be full time at 40 hours per week, Sunday through Thursday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Coordinate and execute all necessary tasks associated with reaching our goal of distributing approximately 80,000 pounds of produce annually.
· Support on-the-ground operations of all phases of distributions, including post‐harvest handling, Farm Stand setup/breakdown, Farm Stand sales and operations, distribution deliveries, and customer service both on and off the farm.
· Coordinate all phases of produce pack out for distributions and storage, including repetitive lifting and moving heavy bins of produce, ensuring all product is washed, packed, allocated and organized in coolers adhering to our food safety procedures.
· A keen eye for quality control, visual aesthetics, and strategic allocation of products.
· Accurately record weights and data for all food distributions and ensure proper food safety and departmental protocols are followed from start to finish.
· Coordinate all phases of produce donations including onsite produce pickups with our partner organizations, chefs, and event orders.
· Responsible for the efficient operations of the post‐harvest station and allocation of teammates’ tasks, ensuring all food safety, quality, and protocols are followed effectively and in compliance with FSMA regulations.
· Ensure quality control of produce and upkeep of food distribution facilities, including cleaning and organizing distribution vehicles, coolers, bins, supplies, and multi-use areas.
· Requirement to take on a multitude of diverse tasks, including but not limited to; Pressure washing bins, supporting build projects, cleaning, structural repairs, facility maintenance and upkeep.
Required Qualifications and Experiences
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
· At least one year of retail or customer service experience, preferably in agriculture, food retail or farmers markets.
· Ability to regularly lift heavy bins up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and drive a vehicle in heavy traffic and residential areas for long periods of time.
· Ability to dependably work 40 hours a week Sundays through Thursday, with Sundays being of very high priority.
· Outstanding communication skills and interpersonal skills.
· Knowledge and passion for farming, food justice, and food systems.
· High level of grit, responsibility, reliability, motivation, and a willingness to learn.
· Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks along with the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, fast-paced team environment.
· Strong organizational and time-management skills.
· Strong eye for visual presentation.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
