Summer Camp Sous Chef
Total Dates of Employment: June 11 - August 19, 2024
Salary range: $12000-$15000 seasonally
Lodging: Dorm-style housing, a short walk from all other camp amenities
Buck’s Rock Camp is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, supervisor to oversee the creation of a welcoming and compassionate community for campers and staff, regardless of socioeconomic status, gender, sexuality, race, religion, and physical ability. Under the supervision of the Head Chef, the Sous Chef will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the logistical and operational aspects of all camp meals.This role requires a combination of organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of camp staff and participants.
The ideal candidate for this position will be able to perform the following
Responsibilities:
- Meal Preparation & Execution :
Ensure meals are prepared on time, meet the Head Chef’s specifications and follow proper temperature and storage guidelines.
- Kitchen Organization & Sanitation:
Maintain a clean, organized workspace, ensure safe equipment use, and enforce health and safety protocols.
- Team Leadership:
Provide supportive leadership, delegate tasks, and oversee kitchen opening, closing, and side duties.
- Safety and Compliance:
Implement and enforce hygiene & safety protocols
Ensure compliance with State of Connecticut relevant regulations and standards
- Inventory & Supply Management:
Monitor kitchen inventory, ensuring supplies are fresh, high-quality, and properly rotated.
- Communication:
Maintain open and clear communication with Kitchen staff
Act as a liaison between the accommodations team and the kitchen staff
- Problem-Solving:
Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise and work to find creative solutions to ensure a successful outcome.
- Camp Responsibilities:
Assist with de-winterization and winterization, attend staff meetings, and foster a positive, collaborative team environment
Qualifications
- Comfortable working with folks of all ages and backgrounds.
- Previous experience in a kitchen preferably in a camp or educational setting.
- Strong Knife skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient multitasker who works well under pressure.
- Shows Initiative
- Extroverted, and approachable.
- Excellent time management skills
- Good humor & optimistic
- Strong verbal skills.
- Solution focused
- Ability to speak English and Spanish a plus
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $12,000.00 - $15,000.00
