Cultured South is a woman owned, queer and BIPOC run business, started with one mission in mind: providing a safe haven to enjoy and education about good healthy food and beverage. From sourcing local, to empowering the community through fermentation education, we strive to provide the resources and knowledge for our community to have access to and choose healthy foods. In August of 2024 we celebrated the ten year anniversary of Cultured South and the one year anniversary of Atlanta Utility Works. With a dedicated owner and operations manager with about 25 years combined experience in farming and food/beverage production industries, Atlanta Utility Works is the embodiment of the Cultured South dream entangled a part of East Point history. From being a certified urban farm, to the brewery on site, and the taproom open daily, we’ve found a plethora of opportunities to show off a piece of history while being able to provide for and support the local community and economy.
Job description
Job Title: Kitchen Manager
Role: This is an exciting opportunity to craft a menu and build a team at a new brepub / farm kitchen in up and coming East Point. This is a community-focused organization, specializing in elevated pub food, bar snacks, bites with an emphasis on fermentation. Seeking an outstanding manager with significant culinary experience who will supervise the daily kitchen operations. As the Kitchen Manager, you will demonstrate a hands-on approach to management and safety, ensuring our kitchen team adheres to the highest standards of quality.
Essential Qualifications
Must have at least 2 years of professional kitchen experience.
Must have at least 1 year of management experience.
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods
Must have proficient written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to calculate food costs and run basic technology
Must possess up-to-date knowledge of techniques and recipes, and be able to jump in and take over for any station
Must love hot dogs :)
Preferred Qualifications
Food Safety Certification
Experience with ordering and inventory management; track record of anticipating and mitigating unnecessary food costs
Experience with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
Experience with distributor ordering, ordering portals and more
Experience with/affinity for fermentation and food preservation
Culinary Duties
Work to craft menu of specialty, elevated bar snacks
Create menus and daily specials, roll out specials weekly. See this process from start to finish. Update menus accordingly with owner.
Create, coordinate and execute culinary related events that give people a reason to come into the restaurant/brewpub
Manage preparation of food menu. Maintain standards and quality of food and presentation.
Direct and participate in the planning and execution of all food preparation
Successful planning and execution of all caterings with team and ownership
Coordinate with White Street location production manager to use fermented products and prep of special dishes
Leadership Duties
Maintain a positive and professional attitude with staff and guests
Play a key role in hiring and training.
Manage and train kitchen staff, establish working schedule, and assess performance.
Foster an educational environment that ensures all culinary staff are always current with recipe and dish changes.
Work closely with the Owner to coordinate the logistics of all day to day operations.
Ensure the tasks and duties necessary to open, operate, and close the kitchen safely are consistently executed.
Work to standardize, streamline and systematize all BOH operations
Ensure full compliance with, and manage, sanitation regulations, health department regulations, and food safety standards
Ensure accurate ordering, receiving, product dating, product rotation, invoice processing and period-end inventory of product and supplies necessary to conduct smooth culinary operations
Monitor labor & Food Costs; keep weekly and monthly cost reports
Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and manage crisis with calm and collected manner
Staff Management: Hire, train, and supervise kitchen staff, including line cooks and dishwashers, and any other kitchen personnel. Work with Taproom manager to manage the kitchen staff schedules to ensure proper coverage during all shifts.
Inventory and Supply Management: Monitor and manage kitchen inventory, ensuring that ingredients and supplies are stocked. Order ingredients, equipment, and other kitchen necessities, coordinating with Taproom manager to be sure that the bar is also stocked.
Manage food costs by tracking waste, optimizing inventory levels, and ensuring the efficient use of ingredients to maximize profit margins.
Food Safety: Ensure compliance with health codes and food safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and kitchen cleanliness.
Kitchen Hygiene: Oversee daily cleaning and sanitation tasks, making sure all areas of the kitchen meet cleanliness standards.
Menu Planning: Plan and update menus, introduce seasonal dishes, and ensure the kitchen can execute all menu items properly.
Additional Tasks
Will perform management tasks while working in the kitchen until taproom occupancy increases
Work with ownership or events manager to manage facility needs and supervise staff when appropriately scheduled

Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
