Barrett's Mill Farm is a women-owned certified organic vegetable, fruit and flower farm growing on 14 acres of town-owned land in Concord, Massachusetts. We sell the large majority of our produce through our farm stand and our 200-member CSA. As part of our community-oriented goals we also provide free CSA shares to local non-profits, donate produce to food pantries weekly, and offer reduced price memberships as part of the SNAP/HIP program.
Job description
We are seeking a friendly and energetic CSA Distribution Manager to run our bustling CSA and farm stand, as well as assist with harvest and post-harvest produce handling. This is a great opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about local farms, getting outside and connecting with customers!
Schedule:
Seasonal position May-Thanksgiving, with the possibility of hours in April as well for the right candidate. All shifts include a 15 minute paid break, and full-day shifts include a 1-hour unpaid lunch.
CSA and Farm Stand shifts:
- Tuesday 10am - 6:30pm
- Wednesday 9:30am - 7pm
- Saturday 7am - 4pm
- During May the hours will be slightly different and include more field work.
Harvest Crew shifts:
- Thursday and Friday 7am - noon (or until 4pm depending on experience and interest)
CSA Distribution Manager Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of Shopkeepers in the CSA and Farm Stand.
- Maintain a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere.
- Ensure food safety protocols are followed.
- Set up the farm stand and CSA and maintain an attractive produce display throughout the day.
- Check in CSA customers.
- Ring up customer purchases in Square and process EBT payments.
- Answer customer questions about produce and the farm’s growing practices.
- Wash produce bins, clean floors, and keep the farm stand, wash area and walk-in cooler organized and clean.
- Keep track of product inventory and notify farm managers if anything is running low.
- Close up the farm stand and CSA for the evening.
Harvest Crew Responsibilities:
- Harvest produce with attention to quality standards.
- One day per week is in the Wash/Pack area washing produce, organizing the cooler and cleaning harvest containers. This is a fast-paced day! The washer is responsible for notifying the farm managers of any quality or food safety issues.
Qualifications:
- At least one season of production farming experience.
- Previous experience in retail and customer service.
- Comfortable using an iPad and Google spreadsheets.
- Experience with Square and taking EBT payments is a plus.
- Positive attitude, good sense of humor and strong work ethic.
- Ability to lift and carry 40lbs over uneven ground.
- Comfortable working in a variety of weather conditions
- Organized, punctual and attentive to detail.
Compensation:
- Pay is $18/hour
- Fifteen-minute morning break is paid, 1 hour lunch break is unpaid.
- Time and a half for hours worked over 40 hrs/week, as well as for time worked on the following holidays: Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day and Indigenous People’s Day.
- Three days of paid sick time.
- One week paid vacation, to be taken after July 1st.
- CSA share (worth $50+ per week), plus extra veggies as available.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
