SUPPLY Bulk Foods is Boston’s first online, plastic-free, dry bulk food store that carries over 200 products, many locally owned suppliers, fair trade, organic and ethically sourced foods, such as grains, spices, beans, coffee, snacks, chocolate, nuts, dried fruits, baking essentials, accessories, etc.

Our mission is to teach people to live plastic free, making it easy, while helping to alleviate Massachusetts' food insecurity issues.

SUPPLY’s model is one where, instead of high delivery fees and traffic ridden travel to a store, orders are placed online and then picked up locally at a partnered business in their neighborhood (20 partnered businesses in Eastern MA so far…).

Job description

Job Overview
This position reports to the person in charge at the kitchen on the day of work. An ideal kitchen assistant helps fill orders during busy fill sessions. This person works well with their fellow workers and is interested in our mission of helping to alleviate food insecurity and ridding our food system of plastics.

We need 1 part time person to work a couple evenings a week (One or two evenings a week is fine. Monday & Tuesday’s are the preferable days.). This would be great for someone who would like a little supplemental income plus an employee discount on orders, or someone interested in getting into a sustainable food job that is changing people's food habits to a healthier and safer way of living.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Help fill orders in the kitchen.
• Pre-package various sizes of product to help the order process move more quickly.
• Be able to fold and carefully close product packages in a neat, clean manner.
• The ability to have pride in your work and care about what you’re doing.
• This position has the potential to grow to a kitchen manager for the right person.

Qualifications:

• Detail oriented
• Punctual
• Reliable
• Good at communicating
• Not afraid to ask questions
• An interest in the environment is helpful
• It would be helpful to be able to lift up to 50lbs, but this is not mandatory.
• Local to Dorchester is preferable but not mandatory
• Food Safety Certification/Allergy Awareness Certification is a bonus

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
