Job description
The Operations Assistant Manager (OAM) is central to the planning and execution of every market day. The OAM will lead the market’s volunteer program and provide support to market operations and programs. You will assist the Operations Manager (OM) to make the market day run smoothly and to ensure a welcoming climate at each market. A successful OAM is compassionate and kind, adaptable, decisive, and community oriented.
Winter season market day hours are roughly 7 AM to 2 PM; the summer market day hours are roughly 6 AM to 2 PM. Hours outside of the market days are flexible.
The Operations Assistant Manager reports directly to the Operations Manager and works on occasional projects with the Executive Director.
Compensation: $24/hr, 15-20 hours per week year round
PTO & Sick Time: Two paid Saturday’s off (7.5 hours each) and 10 additional hours per year
Additional unpaid sick leave up to an additional 32 hours/year (after 90 days of employment)
Reports to: Operations Manager
Required Qualifications:
● Maintain a professional demeanor and adaptability.
● Basic competencies with MS Office Suite and Google Drive.
● Able to maintain an organized and accessible space.
● Can work independently and as part of a team.
● Effective written and verbal communication skills.
● Able to lift 50 lbs. and be on your feet all day.
● Comfortable being outside for extended periods of time in all types of weather.
● Punctual and reliable.
● Passion and dedication to local food systems.
Physical Environment
The set-up and breakdown of the market involves lifting, moving, and assembling large tents as well as possibly assisting vendors or market guests with heavy lifting. The OAM must be able to squat, reach, and spend long hours standing.
Tasks
Volunteers
● Recruitment as needed to meet the operational needs of the market
● Scheduling and training
● Market day tasks and assignments for volunteers
● Appreciation party at the end of each season
Site Operations Support, alongside OM:
● Develop market site strategy
● Set-up equipment specific to guests’ needs (sound equipment for musicians, tables/chairs
for community booths, etc.)
● Assist with site set-up and tear-down
● Maintain, organize and neatly store equipment
● Attend to any shopper, vendor, or staff issues or tasks to ensure smooth operations of market day
● Prepare the weekly vendor map and vendor pouches
● Coordinate with market staff to greet musicians and community booth organizations in the morning and check in with them at the end of the day
Information Booth
● Assist with morning set up of information booth
● Coordinate breaks with the information booth staff/market crew
● Assist shoppers with the purchase of tokens and answer questions as needed
Double Up Food Bucks
● Have a basic understanding of the market’s food accessibility and token programs
● Be able to set up and operate the token program equipment
● Count and reconcile tokens during the winter season (December-March)
Further responsibilities to be discussed and agreed upon with the Operations Manager and Executive Director.
