Company description
At Sun Circle Farm we grow a large variety of fresh, high quality, USDA-Certified Organic produce and flowers for direct-to-consumer sale. It is our belief that when we view the farm holistically and focus on putting in place complimentary systems encouraging healthy living soils and biologically diverse plant rotations, we move towards true sustainability.
Started in 2011, the farm currently has about 2 1/2 - 3 acres under cultivation behind a (usually effective!) moose-and-cattle fence. We currently have 9 passive covered structures and one "real" greenhouse with heat and year-round cover. The years have seen us add an irrigation system, our second walk-in (flower) cooler, various new roof lines and a "flower studio" addition to the harvest shed, as well as an ever-evolving array of new tools and techniques.
We are focused on applying techniques such as minimal tillage, occultation, mulching and flame weeding in an attempt to see how little tillage we can pull off in our cold soils.
We strive to create an accepting, safe work environment. Farming is hard work but immensely rewarding. We try to support and teach our employees whether they are hoping to eventually start a farm business or just want to spend a summer doing good work.
Job description
This is a new position for us! As flower farming becomes more integral to the farm as a whole, we find ourselves needing more experienced help with the flowers.
This position will be a hybrid farm crew/floral crew position. While some duties will be basic farm crew tasks - weeding, planting, harvesting - this crew member will likely spend at least 50% of their time working with our Flower Lead on all things flower farming. This will primarily include harvesting and bouquet making but will offer exposure to the range of flower farming duties.
We are looking for someone who has specific experience with floral design - we spend hours making market bouquets and arrangements and want someone who has demonstrated skills and can jump in and efficiently design and produce bouquets that fit the aesthetic of our farm. Please note that events and installations are NOT what we focus on - we are market farmers producing high quality and varied seasonal bouquets and small arrangements for direct-to-consumer sales. This would be the perfect position for someone with design/floristry experience looking to make the leap into flower farming. Please submit a portfolio or other examples of design work.
As with the other positions, expect to work 5 days a week for about 40 hours and to put in a few extra hours on Fridays.
Compensation is $15-18/hour DOE
