Job description
As a key member of the farm team, the Farm Hand will directly assist the Farm Operations Manager and Farm Production Manager in the day-to-day operations of the farm. This role is essential in ensuring that farm production, harvest, and maintenance tasks are executed efficiently and to the highest standards, contributing to the success of our multi-day onsite farmers market.
Hours:
The Farm Hand position follows a structured schedule based on seasonal demands.
During the Peak Season, the position is 28 hours per week across four days (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday). During the Off Season, the position is 20 hours per week across three days (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
A standard 30-minute unpaid lunch break is provided, along with a 15-minute paid break that can be taken separately or used to extend lunch. There is also flexibility for a shorter break if preferred.
Work Hours by Season:
Peak Season (April – December) | 28 hours/week
April: 7:00 AM – 2:45 PM
May – Early September: 6:30 AM – 2:15 PM
Mid-September – December: 7:00 AM – 2:45 PM
Off Season (January – March) | 20 hours/week
Monday & Wednesday: 7:30 AM – 2:45 PM
Thursday: 7:30 AM – 12:45 PM (shorter shift to balance weekly hours)
Responsibilities
General:
- Performs daily farm tasks, including planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting crops.
- Assists with post-harvest handling, washing, and packing produce for market
- Maintains farm infrastructure, including raised beds, irrigation systems, and pathways.
- Supports soil health practices such as composting, mulching, and no-till practices.
- Operate basic farm tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Assists in setting up and maintaining farm spaces for volunteer workdays
- Works in alignment with Certified Naturally Grown practices
Off Season:
- Engages in crop planning and seed inventory
- Assists the Market Team with off-season tasks
- Handles herbal tea processing
- Works with team on fruit tree pruning
- Assists in greenhouse care, tool maintenance, and shed organizing
- Participates in winterization of farm spaces
- Supports Market Manager in vendor recruitment
- Contributes to ongoing maintenance of the farm
- Provides support in preparation of spring plantings and bed building
Administrative Duties:
- Helps with tracking weights, inventory, planting dates
- Assists in counting market cash
Skills & Experience
- Experience in farming, gardening, or landscaping
- Familiarity with sustainable or organic practices – CNG is a plus
- Ability to execute basic crop care
- Attention to detail
- Demonstrates efficiency
- Knowledge and ability of basic tool use
- Able to follow direction & safety protocols
- Ability to work in a team and also independently
- Punctual
- Capable of working with deadlines
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

Compensation
