Job description
Reporting to the Food Services Director, the Bakery Operations Manager will be responsible for managing all operations of the bakery production and staff within the Production Bakery Team.
- Develop and maintain internal bakery production program ensuring that Woodlands in house baked goods are provided to all locations.
- Ensure store orders/customer demand is met and product is provided timely to each store
- Ensure that products made in-house are of the best quality and superior to similar products available for distributor purchase.
- Ensure quality and consistency standards are met with all house made product.
- Plan, create and supervise the preparation of bakery products while maintaining quality assurance standards and consistency of finished products
- Perform and manage staff concerning bakery duties including weigh, sift, measure and mix baking ingredients, bake bread, rolls, cookies, muffins, pies, cakes, biscuits and other items
- Prepare bakery products, maintain quality assurance standards and consistency of finished products.
- Develop/modify training programs to effectively train current and new staff
- Assist in hiring production bakery employees
- Perform employee performance evaluations and check in with staff frequently in a supportive manner
- Placing vendor orders and maintaining raw goods/product inventory.
- Maintain quality product for bakery case, expiration dates, and visual esthetics
- Answer all customer questions if called upon (to best of ability).
- Maintaining an effective – positive, amicable, upbeat and “smile first” – customer service orientation.
- Research and write seasonal and holiday menus
- Prioritize duties for and direct work
- Collaborate with HR in motivating, coaching, rewarding and disciplining staff as necessary
- Write/approve Bakery work schedules optimizing based on production while adhering to set labor targets
- Coordinate quarterly inventory by means of organizing and consolidation
Requirements:
- Basic understanding of bakery workflow
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and online order management tools.
- Basic experience in using bakery production software, inventory management systems, and basic office applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, or Google Sheets) to track production schedules, manage recipes, and monitor inventory.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- 5 years of experience in the preparation of bakery products and general maintenance of a bakery; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills
- Able to prioritize work and handle multiple concurrent tasks
- Ability to lift 50lbs and Manager
Experience/Education:
- Culinary degree/certificate or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 5 years baking experience, 3 years in a managerial role
- Related trade certification or similar preferred.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $38.46 - $48.07
