Company description
Come work at one of the best farms in Boulder County, Colorado! We are a diversified vegetable farm growing over 100 different crops on 25 acres. We grow vegetables for our 500 CSA members, our farm store, and local restaurants.
Job description
Pay rate: $17.84 - $19/hour. Plus $0.50/hour end-of-season bonus upon completion of the season for every hour you worked during the season. Also weekly vegetables from the farm.
We are looking for somebody to manage our greenhouses and caterpillar tunnels. You must have at least one season of experience working on a vegetable farm. We would prefer somebody who has experience growing vegetable seedlings in a greenhouse.
We have two farm locations. You will be mainly working at our farm located at 7694 N 63rd St, Niwot. However, you will also work at our other location at 1640 W Baseline Rd, Lafayette. This position requires a lot of hours working by yourself and is not a good fit if you are an extroverted person and like to be around other people most of the time.
Work hours during the summer are generally 6am – 3:30pm. We are looking for somebody who can work 3-5 days per week and would prefer one of those days to be Saturday and/or Sunday as the greenhouse needs care 7 days a week. You must be able to work for the entire growing season which ends in early November.
We have a 36′ x 90′ greenhouse where we start vegetable seeds like tomatoes, zucchini, kale, and lettuce. We also have 7-8 caterpillar tunnels which are approximately 100′ long where we grow several different vegetable crops–especially tomatoes.
In the greenhouses, you will be responsible for:
- Starting seeds by hand or with a vacuum seeder. This involves keeping good records of what was planted each day.
- Watering seed starts 2-5 times per day depending on the weather. You must be careful not to over-water trays or to let them dry out too much.
- Maintaining the correct temperatures by turning on fans or the propane heaters as needed.
- Help with pest control (mainly mice that eat the seeds).
In the caterpillar tunnels, you will be responsible for:
- Trellising and pruning tomato plants and harvesting tomatoes. You will have to keep very good records of the status of each caterpillar tunnel.
- Maintaining the correct temperatures by raising and lowering the side walls of the tunnels every day.
- Keeping the tunnels irrigated (with drip tape and an irrigation pump).
- Constructing and breaking down the tunnels several times during the season to cover new crops.
The above duties will take about 1/2 to 2/3 of your time. For the rest of the time you must be a productive member of our farm crew. This includes planting, weeding, and harvesting all of the other crops we grow. Speaking Spanish is a huge plus! Many members of our farm crew are Spanish speakers and it is very helpful to have some farm crew members who are bilingual English/Spanish.
We are requiring all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to help protect our vulnerable employees and customers.
