After 9 years in business, we are excited to be deepening our roots in our new seaside home at 695 Broadway in South Portland, on the Fore River side of the Casco Bay Bridge. We offer expanded bakery retail, coffee, pizza, outdoor seating and saltwater views in the Knightville community.

Job description

An Experienced Baker

We are seeking an experienced pastry baker to share pastry duties as we continue to grow in our new location. Pastry baker will produce Night Moves mainstays as well as dream up and implement new seasonal products.

Daily responsibilities include:

- Scaling, mixing, baking daily pastries for our retail shop

- Assembling retail sandwiches
- Collaboratively maintaining daily pastry flow & schedule as part of a two-person pastry team
- Milling grain
- Prepping seasonal produce
- Frequent cleaning of work areas & dishwashing as part of bake process
- Assistance with sourdough culture maintenance

Hours:

Part-time 2-3 days per week with potential for growth. Must be available Sundays. Workdays are generally 7-9 hours per day, including break time, beginning at 6am. Subject to some fluctuation depending on seasonality.

Compensation:

$18/hour plus shared tips (avg $23-26/hr). Guaranteed $21/hour.

1 hour PTO per 40 hours worked, complimentary bread and treats, access to bulk buying membership, professional development reimbursement.

Qualifications:

We are a small but mighty team. Kindness, flexibility, a cooperative attitude and thorough work ethic are most vital to this position.

A successful candidate will have:

- At least two years professional experience working with pastry

- Interest in whole grains, natural sugars, and dairy.

- Love for the bakery flow – the long dance, the heat, the sensory pleasures, the physicality, the generosity, the repetition that teaches.

- Ability to complete physical work. We lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs, work on our feet, and clean as we go, every workday.

- A learning mindset, eager to find the opportunity in a mistake.

- Strong organizational skills, yet flexibility with the fluctuations the seasons provide - particularly as we grow in our new location.

- A kind and positive attitude.

- Strong communication skills.

- Ability to work independently as well as a part of a collaborative team. Our weekly schedule will provide both.

- A service work ethic, looking for opportunities to contribute to daily tasks.

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
