Company description
Based in Hudson, New York, Hudson Valley Fish Farm is a land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) sustainably raising steelhead trout, a salmon cousin, free of antibiotics, hormones, harsh chemicals, and artificial colorants. Because we are a closed and controlled environment, we have zero impact on local wild fish populations and no risk of escapes.
Our mission is to provide our local, regional and increasingly national communities with fully traceable, healthful, delicious and sustainable domestic steelhead trout. Our fish are fed an all-natural non-GMO diet, are an excellent source of lean protein and are rich in Omega 3s.
Being close to major markets like New York City and Boston contributes to our small carbon footprint and an operation that is ecologically responsible with our commitment and ability to recycle upwards of 95% of our water and upcycle solid waste into compost.
We understand the complete needs of our fish, constantly providing the cleanest environment and best conditions for fish health. Our operations include hatching, growing, humane harvesting and on-site processing which includes filleting, portioning and IQF. Our offerings include head-on gutted whole fish, fillets, custom cuts as well as cold- and hot-smoked.
We are proud to be the world’s first and only RAS to receive 4-stars from Best Aquaculture Practices (hatchery, feed, farm and processing). Additional certifications include Ecocert, OU Kosher, Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, Fish Choice and Ocean Wise.
