Grower
Location: New Buffalo, MI

Hours: Part time, Tuesdays + Wednesdays 7/8am-3/4pm EST
Start Date: Available Now
Salary: Hourly, depending on experience
As the Grower, you'll take the lead on producing gorgeous, nutritious and high-quality greens, herbs, flowers + microgreens from our on-site farmette and greenhouse.
Responsibilities
You’ll collaborate with Farmette’s founder, Katie Burdett, along with the entire small Farmette team.
Participate in all aspects of food and flower production with a focus on salad mixes, microgreens, herbs + flowers.
Maintain the farm, greenhouse, landscaping, planters and general outdoor area.
Production includes seeding, weeding, fertilizing, watering, harvesting, post harvest handling/washing and packing.
Keep all tools, hoses, buckets and general farm supplies in clean, tidy + working order. Tools are cleaned and put away everyday at the end of the day.
Follow Farmette’s crop plan and record keeping procedures.
Follow the principles of Integrative Pest Management for a no-till and no-spray operation.
Stock the marketplace with products from the farm and local farmers.
Maintain a positive, friendly, calm + welcoming environment for all staff, customers and vendors.
Keep a clean + sanitary workspace
Other related duties as assigned
Requirements
At least 1 year of year-round food production experience, preferably in the Great Lakes growing region.
Great communication + interpersonal skills.
Passion for high-quality food production in coordination with soil health, carbon sequestration and general Earth-positive growing practices.
Familiarity with the USDA Organic Certification and/or Regenerative Organic Certification best practices.
Demonstrate the ability to work in a team-driven environment. We are a respectful and positive work environment.
Reliability a must.
Able to work independently, focused and self-driven.
Detail oriented and observant.
Open to feedback with the understanding that the whole team is working towards the same goal.
Keep a positive and professional attitude with co-workers, customers + vendors.
Be able to handle the physical work of farming and working outdoors in all weather conditions. This includes kneeling, bending, lifting, gripping and repetitive motions.
Occasionally lift and move up to 50 lbs.
Reach, bend and stoop frequently.
Make cleanliness and food safety a top priority.
Live within a reasonable driving distance to Farmette and have access to reliable transportation.
We are a non-smoking workplace for the safety of our on-site farm.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
