Job description
Position: Catering Event Cook - Part Time
Hours: 15-30 hours
Days: 3-5 days per week, occasional 5 days
Schedule: Mid-week, alternating weekends
Hours: Mid-Day + Afternoon + Evenings, depending on event needs and your availability
Kitchen Location: North Berkeley
Event Locations: Primarily Berkeley, Oakland, Piedmont - East Bay
Pay: $30/hr
W2 non-benefited

Entering our third year of business, we are adding team members with passions for cooking, sustainable food and community service.
This position is ideal for a candidate who has previous culinary, catering and/or food operations experience, can work autonomously, is self-motivated and directed, is comfortable with large batch prep and cooking, and is looking to gain more exposure to a variety of aspects in a small business.
You’re seeking greater autonomy and work-life balance while continuing to refine your culinary skills. You value working with a small team on a seasonally changing menu and want to be involved in the full process—from concept to execution—of creating event menus.
The Catering Event Cook is a newly created position that will play a key role in supporting the growth of our business. Responsibilities will include sourcing ingredients, preparing and cooking in the kitchen, scheduling back-of-house support staff, and collaborating on the execution of catered events. As we continue to grow, we anticipate expanding our team with additional part-time staff.
Cook, (1-3) days 10-15 hours per week, North Berkeley
Execute dishes from start to finish, roast, sauteed, and related
Comfortable breaking down entire cases of produce
Culinary cooking skills to prep for events, primarily large batch cooking
Kitchen organization and kitchen cleaning
Supervise and participate in regular kitchen cleaning
Execute Events, (1-3 days) 4-10 hours per week, East Bay, various locations
Act as Solo Catering Culinary Lead for Simple Fare events and small reusable drop-offs
Partner with Chef for Sustainable Buffet and Full Service events for groups of 50-300 guests
Platter buffets and finish apps, keep BOH area clean, and adhere to all food safety guidelines
May support small client deliveries if a delivery van is not available.
Shop/plan, (1 day) 3-4 hours per week, Berkeley & Oakland
Shop weekly for ingredients at local markets and restaurant shops based on the chef's list
Schedule additional ingredient deliveries from local farms
Use of business credit card, collaborate with chef on shop list
Use of your own car with reimbursement for time and fuel, loading and unloading, and opening kitchen
Qualifications:
Be passionate about clean food and sustainability
2-5 years culinary experience in restaurants, catering, or related space
Autonomous, able to organize tasks and schedule independently
Work quickly, cleanly, and efficiently with a sense of purpose
Ability to follow directions and food safety protocol
Provide mentorship to culinary trainees
Team player and respectful, professional and easy-going, and coachable
Open to using your own vehicle with business reimbursement
Comfortable working autonomously
Culinary Degree preferred

You report directly to Executive Chef Peter, who has been cooking professionally for over 20 years in fine dining, corporate, and nonprofit spaces. We value our team and our clients, and our community. Internally, we hold quarterly check-ins with team members to keep communication open and pursue both business and team member satisfaction. We are pursuing steady and sustainable business growth, and not at the expense of the team. The Table Catering anticipates adding additional team members in the next 6 to 18 months.
