Berkshire Grown is hiring for the Berkshire Mobile Farmers Market Site Manager and Assistant Site Manager!
The Site Manager is the on-site lead at the markets, coordinating the market logistics with site hosts, shoppers, market ambassadors and volunteers. This is a seasonal, 25 hours/ week position requiring 3 days/week, with on-site work at the Berkshire Mobile Farmers Market sites during the market season (June through mid-October).
The Assistant Site Manager is on-site at the markets, helping to coordinate the market logistics with the Site Manager at each location. This is a seasonal, 20-24 hours/week position requiring 3 days/week, with on-site work at the market sites and storage facilities during the market season (June-mid-October).
The Berkshire Mobile Farmers Market (BMFM) is a collaborative food access program with the mission of bringing fresh, healthy local food to low-income and low-access communities across Berkshire County. We work with local farmers to offer a variety of locally grown seasonal produce, eggs, meat, dairy products and other food items.
This program has several objectives and stakeholders. The aim of the program is to:
- support local farmers and food producers by providing a wholesale revenue stream for their products,
- lessen food insecurity and improve equitable access to local, healthy food options (especially for those in remote and rural areas),
- mitigate the stigma of using EBT/SNAP benefits and food pantries.
- improve community resiliency by diminishing our reliance on long-distance food chains.
In 2025 we will operate the Berkshire Mobile Farmers Market at six locations across the county weekly from mid-June through mid-October. This job description relates to the Southern Berkshire sites: Becket, Monterey and Wahconah Park in Pittsfield.
South County Market Days and Times:
Becket: Town Hall, 557 Main St., Tuesdays 3:30–5:30pm
Pittsfield: Wahconah Park, 105 Wahconah St., Wednesdays 11:30am–1:30pm
Monterey: Community Center, 468 Main Rd., Fridays 3:30–5:30pm
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be based/able to commute to Southern Berkshire County
- Must have farmers market/grocery/retail experience
- Excellent communications skills;
- Demonstrated experience working at a farmers market (first-hand knowledge of Berkshire local food and farmers market producers a plus);
- Competency managing inventory and Point of Sale System (Square);
- Ability to take initiative while also working as a team player;
- Understanding of food insecurity in the community a plus;
- Bilingual Spanish speaker a plus.
Compensation:
Site Manager: This is a non-exempt hourly position, $22 - 24/hour, dependent on experience
Assistant Site Manager: This is a non-exempt hourly position, $21-22/hour dependent on experience
