About Us:
Located in a beautifully restored 1875 church in the heart of the Catskills, Haymarket is a vibrant new market and café offering thoughtfully prepared breakfast and lunch, as well as curated items for guests to enjoy at home. Our mission is to celebrate seasonality, community, and craft in every dish we serve. We're building a space where locals and visitors can gather over good food, and we’re looking for a Head Cook to join us at the start of this journey.
Position Overview:
As Head Cook, you will be a cornerstone of Haymarket’s culinary identity and a leader in the kitchen. You'll work closely with ownership to help shape and execute the opening menu, establish kitchen protocols, and build a strong team culture rooted in respect, consistency, and creativity. This is a unique opportunity to help launch a new concept in a stunning and historic setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all kitchen operations, from prep to service and cleanup
- Collaborate on seasonal menus that highlight local ingredients and reflect Haymarket’s aesthetic and values
- Working with ownership, hire , train, and lead a small but efficient kitchen team
- Ensure quality, consistency, and presentation of all dishes
- Manage inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships
- Maintain a clean, organized, and health code-compliant kitchen environment
- Set and uphold standards for safety, sanitation, and food handling
- Contribute to a positive, supportive workplace culture
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in a leadership role in a professional kitchen
- Strong knowledge of breakfast and lunch service, with an emphasis on simple, seasonal cooking
- Comfortable creating and scaling recipes
- Comfortable working in a business that's just launching, and ability to navigate ambiguity
- Passion for hospitality, sustainability, and delicious food
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification (or willingness to get certified)

Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $60,000.00 - $85,000.00
