We disseminate edible nutrition education to schools, farms and community organizations, teaching kitchens in hospitals and large corporations nationwide. We conduct research on our innovative strategies in collaboration with Columbia University’s Teachers College, University of Vermont, Einstein College of Medicine and other institutions across the US.
Job description
The Communications and Outreach Lead is an entry-level position and works 30-35 hours per week, Monday – Friday, in a positive work environment. The ideal candidate will have culinary/recipes skills and familiarity. They will also be comfortable and creative with social media, newsletter and promotional writing – both for new partnerships and potential donors and funders. This role will provide seamless flow of key public-facing communications: SM, newsletter, website, reports, e-blasts etc. Additionally, this role will execute our donor campaigns and ensure that donors receive the scheduled communications to encourage giving as well as the communications that thank them for their contributions.

Additionally, the candidate should be comfortable in a dynamic environment where priorities can change quickly, and excited to help build a strong, fun, team-centered environment.
Self-motivation and a positive, can-do attitude are essential for this role that could become a springboard to other roles. Our past employees have gone on to high level positions in test kitchens, editorial departments and Ivy League level academia in nutrition, from our tutelage. The Communications and Outreach lead reports directly to the Founder. In addition to salary compensation, the right candidate will have an opportunity to demonstrate strengths to be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
Requirements:
- Exceptional organizational skills

- Basic culinary skills, recipe writing skills
- Health conscious and nutrition knowledgeable
- Lively, outgoing personality
- Experience with marketing and PR in social media platforms, including Instagram, Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube
- Quick learner of tech, including donor management software
- Strong computer skills, especially with Mac OS, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Close attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and deliver in a timely manner
- Proficient in online content management systems such as
Wordpress, and Constant Contact
- Proficiency with Photoshop, video editing Software or Illustrator is a plus but not required
Responsibilities:
- Managing FamilyCook’s media and communication (website, blog, and social media)
- Support design of reports, public facing recipe books, etc. As necessary, supervise the development of these assets as conducted by VAs
- Supervise dietetic interns to further support social media themes/campaigns
- Support email marketing campaigns, including year-end donation campaigns
- Provide content and design for Monthly organizational newsletter in constant contact
- Conduct some SM direct engagement: supervise VA for IG engagement, support LinkedIn engagement with thoughtful reposts and sharing of newsworthy activity
- Update FCP website for non-program related content
Manage FCP donor campaign outreach and dedicated donor management software
- Support FCP fundraising proposals and presentation decks
30-35 hr week position with some flexibility, delicious lunch provided daily. Rate is negotiable. This role is non-exempt and overtime is paid accordingly.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $50,000.00 - $65,000.00
