Rascal Relish is a small woman owned and operated business specializing in the seasonal production of hyper-local small batch craft condiments. We can and ferment local veggies from farms like Hutchins Farm, Lexington Community Farm, and the Neighborhood Farm to bring pickles, relishes, jams, and other condiments to farmers markets and small food purveyors in the greater Boston region.

We also provide garden coaching and sitting services, offer a series of workshops and other educational opportunities, and occasionally prepare and sell herbal products.

Rascal Relish is based in Middlesex County, Massachusetts: producing out of Stoneham, with gardens in Winchester and Medford.

Job description

Starting immediately (late June or early July) the Production Assistant will join the business owner in the kitchen up to twice a week for up to 12 total hours. Shifts will likely be 10-4 Mondays and/or Tuesdays, and 2-6 Fridays.

The Production Assistant will also have the opportunity to train up to be a Market Sales Lead by September to cover some markets when the business owner has to be at weddings! Markets are generally Thursdays and Saturdays within an hour of Medford.

Kitchen tasks will include washing and chopping produce; assisting in the production of pickles, jams, and relishes; jarring and canning of products; labeling and storage.

Market tasks will include picking up/dropping off equipment, driving to and from the market, set up and breakdown of a 10x10 tent, a 6 foot table, and all the elements of our display; effective sales for ~4 hours; and being a friendly and professional person to customers, fellow vendors, and market staff.

Both roles require:
- ability to lift 50lbs and be on your feet for up to 6 hours
- proficiency and literacy in English
- attention to detail and curiosity
- an eagerness to learn about and retain skills and information related to our product.

Qualifications include:
- previous experience in food production, hospitality, or sales
- basic knife handling skills
- physical strength and good hygiene
- effective, professional, and kind communication skills
- access to a car and a legal driver's license required to fulfill job duties. Mileage reimbursement is provided at the MA rate of 70 cents / mile.

The hiring process will include conversation over email, a phone screening, and eventually an in-person interview in Medford or Stoneham.

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
