Job description
The Herd Manager of Growing Gardens is responsible for management of the goat dairy operations including, animal husbandry, raw dairy production, and grazing management for our herd of 10- 13 goats and 1 guardian llama. The Herd Manager will facilitate on and off farm educational programming opportunities.
Job Title: Herd Manager
Job Status: Salaried, Full Time, Year Round. Salaried position is an average of 40 hours a week (hours do change seasonally and can go up to 45+ hours during the kidding season)
Reports To: Site Director
Preferred Start Date: July 28, 2025
Pay: Salary $51,000- $59,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications. Additional compensation provided for Spanish language speaking and writing skills

Herd Manager Desired Qualifications and Skills:
- 2-3-years experience working with dairy animals
Familiarity with raw milk protocols
- 1 full year of milking experience
- Excellent communication and conflict resolutions skills
- Strong decision-making skills and response to high-pressure situations
- Strong computer skills over a wide variety of platforms
Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
Special Requirements:
- Hours change seasonally but regularly include weekend and evening work and long hours as necessary, specifically during the kidding season of March-April
- Ability to operate computers, mobile devices, office and farm equipment
- Ability to interact with volunteers, interns, youth, people with disabilities and the general public on a daily basis
- Ability to work on uneven terrain in the field
- Must be able to successfully manage multiple, high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to lift 75lbs
- Ability to work in a wet, cold and hot environment
- Must have a reliable vehicle for transportation between site and partner organizations. Must have a cell phone.
- Must submit to a fingerprint background check
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $56,485 - $75,000
