Job description
The Garden Coordinator's responsibilities include managing all aspects of fruit and vegetable production, utilizing our 3/4 acre program garden space and 2 acre orchard space to produce food for programmatic use, dining hall use, and donation to community food pantry partners. The Garden Coordinator will work closely with the farm manager, food service coordinator, and chefs to set and achieve production goals. They are responsible for the entirety of fruit and vegetable production, from planning, placing seed/fertilizer/plant orders through to harvest, food safe post-harvest, to delivery to our dining halls or community partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Plan and execute all aspects of fruit and vegetable production
- Manage greenhouse and transplant production
- Tend garden by preparing soil, planting crops, installing irrigation, maintaining garden space, harvesting produce, and storing produce using food safe handling practices
- Coordinate with farm manager, food service coordinator, and chefs for utilization of produce, project planning, and implementation
- Practice soil regeneration through cover cropping, composting, and yearly soil testing
- Keep records and data on garden related topics
- Work 1-2 weekends per month
- Assist with animal care and leading educational farm-based programming as needed
- Uphold professional relationships with camp staff, partner staff, and campers
- Keep gardens, barns, and work station neat and organized
Requirements:
- 2 or more seasons working on a diversified vegetable production farm, preferably in the Southeast
- Flexible, hardworking, self motivated individual with ability to work with others to accomplish collective and individual goals
- Able to work independently and on a team to achieve goals of overall farm and camp community
- Physically able to bend, crouch, kneel, walk on uneven surfaces, lift and carry 50 lbs, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
Preferred Experience:
- One or more seasons managing in a vegetable production farm setting
- Farm crew management experience
- Experience with any of the following:
- Work with children and teens in a camp setting
- Hydroponics
- Mushroom cultivation
- Fruit orchard management
- Agricultural education

Compensation
