Closter Farm & Livestock Co. is pioneering an exciting new model for a thriving, small-farm-based regional food system.
We are farmers first. We proudly grow certified USDA Organic and Real Organic vegetables, fruits, and pasture-raised chickens year-round on our 7-acre farm in Closter, NJ, using regenerative practices that build fertility and sustainability. In addition, we gather and offer for sale exceptional produce from 15-20 other trusted local small-scale farms and artisans. We are often their largest and most consistent customer.
Our boutique Farmstand and Grocery Store is the vibrant heart of our model. We are open daily from 9am-6pm, offering the freshest, most beautiful local produce available. Now in our 6th year of rapid growth, we are deeply grateful for the understanding and enthusiasm of our customers who make all of this possible.
Job description
The Grocery Store Manager will oversee the daily operations and success of our boutique Farmstand and Grocery Store, with emphasis on inventory management, organization and overall profitability. The ideal candidate will bring strong grocery retail experience, proven inventory control skills, merchandising expertise, and exceptional customer service capabilities. Your role will be critical in connecting customers to our unique story, our meticulously grown products, and our commitment to quality and sustainability.
Responsibilities:
· Oversee daily store operations, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and excellence.
· Manage and optimize inventory processes, including accurate ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, rotation, and merchandising to minimize waste, enhance product freshness, and ensure optimal stock levels.
· Train, supervise, and support retail staff, creating a welcoming customer environment.
· Maintain a visually appealing, clean, and well-organized store that effectively highlights our organic products.
· Engage and educate customers on our farming practices, product origins, and benefits.
· Enforce food safety standards, cleanliness, and compliance with regulations.
· Collaborate closely with farm staff to coordinate fresh product availability and strategic promotions.
· Monitor sales trends, track inventory performance, and provide actionable insights to improve efficiency and profitability.
Qualifications:
· 2+ years of grocery retail or farmers market management experience (preferably in natural foods, specialty, or boutique grocery environments).
· Demonstrated expertise in inventory control, merchandising strategies, and customer relationship management.
· Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records and systems.
· Passionate about organic agriculture, sustainability, and supporting local food systems.
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
· Proven ability to manage and motivate a small team effectively.
· Flexible availability, including some weekends and holidays.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $50,000 - $75,000
