Wholesale Quality Assurance Lead - Full Time
Position Summary
The Quality Assurance Lead will oversee all quality control operations for GrowNYC Wholesale, New York City's only regional food hub. This role focuses on maintaining the highest standards of product quality through systematic inspections, accurate weighing and case count verification, and comprehensive packing inspections. The Quality Assurance Lead will be responsible for developing and implementing quality control procedures, conducting regular audits of incoming and outgoing products, and ensuring product integrity throughout the supply chain. This position requires close collaboration with the procurement and inventory teams to address quality issues promptly. The Quality Assurance Lead reports to the Assistant Director of Wholesale Food Distribution.
Requirements
Wholesale Quality Assurance Lead Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
Conduct comprehensive quality inspections of all incoming products upon receipt, documenting condition, temperature, and compliance with purchase specifications
Perform systematic packing inspections to ensure proper handling, packaging integrity, and adherence to customer requirements before shipment
Execute accurate weighing procedures and verify case counts for all products, maintaining detailed records and identifying discrepancies
Conduct random quality audits on stored inventory to ensure ongoing product integrity and proper rotation
Document all quality control activities in the inventory management system, generating reports on quality metrics and trends
Prepare daily quality reports summarizing inspection results, non-conformances, and corrective actions taken
Collaborate with procurement team to communicate quality issues to vendors and track vendor performance metrics
Qualifications
2-4 years of quality control or quality assurance experience in food service, distribution, or agricultural industry
Experience with produce grading standards and quality specifications
Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed records
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry and basic reporting
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Agriculture, or related field is a plus
Food safety certification (ServSafe or similar) is a plus
Knowledge of organic certification standards and handling requirements
Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills
Schedule
The schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends depending on business needs. Shift start times can vary between 6am to 9am depending on vendor receiving schedules. This position is full-time and year-round with an expected weekly workload of 35-40 hours per week with a 1 hour unpaid meal break each work day.
Compensation
This is a non-exempt full-time salaried position. It pays $60,000 - $65,000 annually and includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days and FSA programs). This position is union eligible.
Location
This is an in-person role with 5 days a week at our Bronx Food Hub.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $60,000.00 - $65,000.00
