We are working to restore healthy food access so that people across Chicago neighborhoods can have a worthwhile grocery experience regardless of zip code.
Forty Acres Fresh Market is preparing to open its first brick and mortar store in Chicago's Austin neighborhood in 2025 and is currently building the foundational management team.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, bookkeeping and retail pricing experience, and a willingness to work collaboratively with other departments. The Job
As the Pricing Coordinator and Bookkeeper, you will report directly to the store’s General Manager and will be responsible for the accurate recording and coordination of all internal financial information. You will be the point of information regarding changes in product cost and internal financial record keeping for all department heads. You will need to communicate the store’s financial situation in reports designed by the store’s general manager. This position is expected to follow all company policies and procedures. The ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is necessary to meet the needs of the business. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Recording daily sales, balancing cash drawers, and expense information. This includes preparing payroll information for the accountant services, preparing revenue report for sales tax filing, running reports as needed for management to make informed decisions, coordinating payments to Direct-Store-Delivery (DSD) vendors, reconciling monthly account information, and managing license renewals and inspections.
- Pricing coordination includes receiving new pricing information from the store’s primary warehouse, calculating price changes as DSD vendors change their incoming costs, generating new shelf signage, preparing and managing weekly/monthly/quarterly TPR pricing, and updating the store’s pricing database used at the point-of-sale.
- Manage and coordinate with all department managers to assist in maintaining departments gross margins and ensure pricing accuracy as it relates to their respective departments. Including communication to Cashiers, Front End staff, Store Leadership, and Team members to ensure price integrity is maintained.
- Create a system for interdepartmental inventory transfers to maintain accurate department inventories and P&L statements. Must regularly update inventory transfers in the system.
- Cash Handling: Will assist the Front-End Supervisor with overseeing cash handling procedures, monitor cash register balances, and reconcile cash drawers. Scrupulously ensure the integrity of all front-end cash handling. Notify management of cashier over/under issues, or other loss-prevention issues discovered in accounting.
- Systems: Resolve cash register and office equipment interface malfunctions promptly and in a cost-effective manner.
- Rotating Manager on Duty responsibilities - including potentially either opening or closing the store, maintaining team member and customer safety, addressing customer concerns, and upholding store standards.
Qualifications
- 2 years of proven experience in bookkeeping, office records, or pricing coordination.
- At least 2 years of retail management experience
- Must be proficient in Inuit Quickbooks
- Experience with cashiering and operating computerized cash register systems.
- Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service.
- Skilled at managing multiple demands and navigating challenging situations with ease.
- Ability to remain composed and calm in high-pressure environments.
- Strong communication skills, including clear instructions, active listening, and maintaining an approachable and fair attitude.
- Capability to project a mature, friendly, and outgoing image.
- Experience in developing and implementing efficient systems and procedures.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of grocery/retail office experience
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree a plus
Work Environment / Physical Demands
- Must have the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, climb, balance, stoop to grasp objects, kneel, crouch, crawl, frequently push/pull up to 50 lbs., frequently lift and/or move loads up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to enter the coolers and freezers thereby being subjected to and withstanding frequent temperature changes for extended periods of time.
- Frequent high stress when dealing with systems/customers/staff.
- Able to work a flexible schedule with various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the store/business needs and as required to ensure adequate store staffing, and ability to be reached as needed after hours.
- Must have a reliable means of transportation, as this role requires timeliness for store opening shifts.

Salary: Starting at $55,000, annually
