Company description
Ironbound Farms
Ironbound Farm is a 108-acre transitional organic regenerative farm in the New Jersey Highlands. Our crew uses regenerative farming practices to manage our vegetable crops, infusion plantings, and our extensive orchard of heritage cider apples. Our orchard features some of the East Coast’s largest planting of Newark’s own Harrison apple — early America’s most renowned cider apple. We produce high-quality foods using intensive land and animal management. We rotationally graze our pigs, goats, sheep, and chickens through open pasture and silvapasture with a focus on soil health and animal welfare.
Through regenerative agriculture, we’re building a healthy and sustainable ecosystem through soil-borne fertility. Because of this interconnectedness, every living organism within our soil lives in a symbiotic relationship with the fruit trees, crops, and livestock on our farm. Our goal is to employ curious and excited people and pay a fair wage. We especially like working with people who share their ideas for improvements and push the boundaries of modern regenerative farming practices. Employees with motivation and passion have the opportunity to build their work into more than just a job.
Working with livestock is not easy, clean, and predictable. Employees must be able to roll with punches; the wellbeing of over a thousand animals is the livestock teams responsibility and it’s not something to be taken lightly. What we ask, is for someone who is passionate, hardworking, and willing to put in the time and energy to learn and accomplish the given tasks - all the while holding respect and acknowledgement for responsibility to the animals.
Prior experience is great and preferred, however do not let that stop you. At Ironbound farm we want to make you and us the best agriculturalist we can be. It takes a lifetime to master a craft, and we are all constantly learning and educating one another. If this will possibly be your first job in livestock, then be a sponge and know it’s hard work.
