Frø is a New York-based CPG startup baking fresh, small-batch rugbrød — traditional Danish rye bread. As we build out our new production bakery in Red Hook, we’re looking for curious, independent, and craft-obsessed bakers to shape the future of bread in the U.S. This isn’t your typical bakery job — we offer flexibility, space for creativity, and a work environment that’s just as beautiful as the bread we bake.
Job description
Frø is seeking an experienced professional lead baker to join our team and help launch our Danish rye bread production. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing artisanal bakery business focused on authentic Scandinavian breads.
What you’ll do:
- Take ownership of the production of Frø’s signature Danish rye breads and other grain-forward products
- Operate commercial baking equipment including roll-in rack ovens, mixers, proofers, slicers, 3 compartment sinks, etc.
- Mix, ferment, shape, bake, and slice breads according to traditional methods and custom SOPs
- Maintain a clean, organized, and DOH-compliant work environment
- Contribute to recipe development, new product ideas, and packaging decisions
- Collaborate with a small, dynamic founding team building something from scratch
Who you are:
- A problem solver and creative, critical thinker
- Comfortable working alone or with limited supervision
- Excited about whole grains, fermentation, and Scandinavian food culture
- Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs and being on your feet for several hours
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Eager to be part of an early-stage business with startup energy
- 2–5 years of professional baking experience (bread-specific experience strongly preferred)
- Bonus: Familiarity with Danish rye bread

Schedule & Compensation
- Part time and full time available
- Weekday hours: 8am-5pm (subject to change as demand dictates) - we will do everything we can do to avoid 4am start times like most retail bakeries
- Potential to evolve into a salaried position and/or leadership role
About the Frø Bakehouse
Our bakery space is being custom-built for quality, creativity, and community. Located on the Red Hook waterfront, our space is designed to support seamless operations, offering clean aesthetics and best-in-class equipment. The bakehouse is intended to make baking not just efficient, but inspiring.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $18.00 - $25.00
