South River Miso Company is a family-owned business founded in 1979 and currently employing 10 people. We are located on a beautiful farm property in the quiet countryside along the South River in Conway, Massachusetts. We produce nine varieties of certified organic, unpasteurized miso. South River Miso is a naturally fermented food handcrafted according to a centuries-old Japanese farmhouse tradition. It is made with the understanding that healing food, wisely used, is our best medicine. Through online orders we ship miso to individuals throughout the United States. We also ship miso directly to stores and supply several regional, organic food distributors.
Job description
The new team member will be part of a 3-person production crew and be trained in all aspects of miso making.
The primary focus and area of responsibility for this position will be in our fermentation vat building and will entail:
· harvesting miso from fermentation vats
· cleaning and maintenance of fermentation vats and the vat building
· supporting all aspects of miso production as needed
This position will also assist in the following areas:
· maintaining production records and logs
· cleaning of the production facilities and equipment
· organizing and maintaining commodity storage area
· meeting other company needs, as skills and schedule allow
General Requirements:
· An interest in natural foods and in furthering the potential of miso as a healing food
· Open mind, good will, with positive team-building outlook
· Mindful attention to detail
· Ability to engage in sustained, active physical work, including some heavy lifting
· Following food safety protocols
· Forklift operation (training provided)
This is a 30 hour per week position, Monday through Friday, 8am to 3pm.
This position receives paid time off and a seasonal share of organic vegetables from Natural Roots CSA.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
