Company description
We are a Brooklyn food Co-op serving the communities of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, and beyond.
We are a working Co-op — all member-owners contribute at least 2.5 hours of work every four weeks either through in-store shifts or remote committees.
Our mission is to have a positive impact on our community in every way possible.
We value the spirit of democratic cooperation in which each individual has a voice, and each member-owner works to support the Co-op. We strive to offer a range of local, affordable, organic, and sustainable food and household products. As neighbors, we strive to reflect the community in which we live, and we actively work to ensure that the Co-op is accessible to all. We seek to develop the Co-op as an ethical entity, using transparent and socially responsible buying and selling practices.
Job description
Are you a team player? Do you love to solve problems? Do you like working with a large and diverse set of people? Do you love variety in your day-to-day?
Overview of the Role
The Weekend Lead will maintain store operations, merchandising, and guide member-owners working their volunteer shift at a cooperative grocery store. Key responsibilities will include setting up, restocking, and closing down the store to ensure optimal customer experience. This will include delegating tasks from a set task guide to member-owners. Weekends are our busiest shopping time of the week and we are looking for someone passionate about fresh food and cooperative values to keep the store running smoothly. The Weekend Lead will be able to assess and adjust priorities to meet the store's most pressing needs. This looks like being able to jump on the cashier at a moment's notice or take a pause on restocking coffee to handle an incoming small delivery. The position requires the ability to lift heavy boxes that can weigh up to 50 pounds repeatedly unassisted and the ability to carry 50 pounds up and down a flight of stairs repeatedly.
This is a part-time 90-day contract position with the hope of converting into a long-term position with benefits pending budget availability.
