We utilize permaculture principles to develop our main 20 acre farm and our 360 acre farm expansion and provide pork and poultry to our community. Job description
An Alaskan regenerative pork and poultry farm is looking for a capable, reliable, intelligent and hard worker to join our team. This position is best suited for an applicant that is interested in animal husbandry and wanting to become a member-owner running a for-profit, pasture-based livestock farm. We do not require previous farm work experience, but individuals must be reliable and consistent with a strong desire to learn about farming and the tasks required to run a farm. Applicants must be able to work outside in all weather conditions for extended periods with a good attitude.
Responsibilities include:
Daily care (feeding, watering, etc.) of all animals including pigs, geese, chickens and horses
Basic infrastructure construction including buildings, pens, livestock housing, fencing, etc.
Adhering to a rotational grazing schedule by moving animals and portable infrastructure to new pasture (sometimes daily)
Slaughtering and processing animals for food
Working autonomously with minimal manager oversight to complete tasks
Organizing, cleaning and maintaining tools, motorized equipment and storage areas
Operating all terrain vehicles and/or heavy equipment
Working outside in all weather conditions
Requirements:
Safe motor vehicle operating skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Eager attitude with the desire to learn and develop skills
Strong work ethic
Ability to prioritize results and performance above bluster. Your work speaks for itself.
Ability to enjoy and respond well to criticism (You must be able to professionally receive manager feedback)
Reliable and consistent
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outside in all conditions
Detail oriented
Outdoor work experience: 2+ years (Preferred)
Farming experience: 1+ years (Preferred)
Compensation & Benefits:
$15 per hour (depending on experience)
401(k) plan with ROTH options and employer match (after a year of employment)
Regular raises based on clearly defined performance metrics
