Company description
Tucked away in a secluded valley of the Tuscan Apennines, our certified organic goat dairy spans 1,000 hectares of meadows, forests, and pastures. We’re known throughout the region for our regenerative farming practices, dedication to animal welfare, and the craftsmanship of our award-winning artisanal cheeses. Ours is a place where traditional rural life meets thoughtful innovation - where care for the land and respect for nature guide everything we do.
Job description
We’re seeking two Stewards of the Soil -- ideally an adventurous young couple -- to join our farm community. This is more than a job: it’s an invitation to live closely with the rhythms of nature, to learn the art and discipline of organic dairying, and to help shape a landscape that feeds both body and spirit. You’ll take part in the daily life of the farm -- from tending animals to cultivating fields -- surrounded by mountains, clean air, and the quiet hum of a working countryside.
Main tasks (to be shared and rotated):
- Daily care of the dairy herd and management of livestock (herding activities with livestock grazing)
- Additional care for horses, donkeys, and shepherd dogs, with attention to animal welfare and compliance with regional veterinary regulations
- Cleaning and care of stables
- Seasonal work: vegetable garden, cereal cultivation, and chestnut grove management
- Regular farm duties: fencing, minor maintenance, irrigation, managing tools and tractors, cooking in rotation for the team, welcoming guests, and collaborating with the local community
- Pasture management
- Occasional support for the artisanal dairy, assisting the master cheesemaker in all phases of production
- Environmental stewardship: water management, biodiversity, and protection of forests and hedges
- Occasional participation in markets, tastings, and farm visits
What we offer:
- Competitive salary, with growth opportunities for long-term roles
- A deep connection to Tuscany’s mountain life - working among breathtaking landscapes and local traditions
- Comfortable furnished accommodation on the farm, including utilities and reliable internet
- Hands-on professional training, including HACCP certification for dairies, workplace safety, and the opportunity to obtain an Italian tractor operator’s license
- Seasonal farm produce and dairy products for personal use - straight from the source
- Cultural exchange and language support for non-Italian speakers
- Visa and relocation assistance (where possible for qualified candidates)
- A genuine sense of purpose - the chance to live sustainably, learn traditional skills, and be part of a growing community
Ideal requirements:
- Passion for sustainable agriculture, organic farming, and animal welfare
- Ability to live and work in a remote but beautiful mountain environment
- Education in agriculture, animal husbandry, or natural sciences (diploma, course, or degree)
- Ability to work independently, taking responsibility and showing initiative in daily farm life
- Previous experience with farm animals; willingness to learn milking and cheesemaking
- Initiative, responsibility, precision; ability to recognize mistakes and continuously improve
- Motivation & ability to learn Italian (oral and written)
- Non-smokers
