Village Coffee and Goods is a specialty coffee shop and bakery in Kingston, NY offering breakfast and lunch, house made pastries and bread, along with provisions for your pantry and home.
We focus on organic seasonal produce to drive our menu choices, while striving to waste nothing. We compost and food scraps and all coffee waste we can't use and we encourage our customers to eat in on our beautiful locally made ceramics.
Job description
Our Gastronome is our cook/server, we prep our mise en place and assemble beautiful dishes that we then deliver to the customers directly.
We work with as much local produce as we can and we focus on the seasonality of the produce... BLT only while we can get the most amazing heirloom tomatoes for example.
Our egg sandwiches are a staple on the menu and all our bread and laminated pastries are made in house.
We are looking for someone who can confidently and efficiently run the line and work with our lead gastronome to consistently make great food at the cafe.
Creativity is encouraged and we are rooted in tradition. Simple, well seasoned and nutritious food all prepared in a tiny kitchen with most cooking done in a convection oven.
There is no grill or flat top to operate, no gas, we use only electric and induction burners.
In down times our gastronomes might be baking a frittata or preparing a soup. They also work the counter using square. They are often directly talking to the customer from the line. It's a community space and we serve a lot of our customers daily!
The position is hourly plus tips. There is room to grow within our business and our two locations.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
