Job description
We’re looking for a chef who’s as excited about nourishing people as we are.
About the Role
We’re looking for a creative, organized, and health-conscious chef who loves cooking with purpose. You’ll lead our kitchen operations, collaborate on weekly menus, and help us build efficient systems for healthy, scalable cooking — all without the grind of restaurant hours.
This is a leadership opportunity for someone who’s passionate about food, curious about nutrition, and eager to be part of a fast-growing startup that’s changing how people eat.
What You’ll Do
- Design and cook healthy, seasonal menus in collaboration with our founder and nutrition team.
- Explore new flavors, ingredients, and global cooking styles to keep meals exciting.
- Lead and guide a small but growing kitchen team — we’ll start with one prep cook and grow together.
- Maintain high standards of consistency, safety, and kitchen organization.
- Scale recipes for batch production while ensuring quality and freshness.
- Manage inventory, vendor relationships, and minimize food waste.
- Document recipes, streamline workflows, and help improve our production systems as we grow.
- Jump in where needed — we’re a startup, and we value flexibility and teamwork.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience cooking in a professional or high-volume kitchen (3+ years preferred, but we value skill and enthusiasm over titles).
- Strong organization, efficiency, and attention to detail.
- A passion for healthy, delicious food — and curiosity about how nutrition impacts well-being.
- Leadership potential and a collaborative spirit — you enjoy mentoring and working alongside your team.
- Valid Food Handler’s License (or willingness to obtain one).
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Nice to Have
- Experience with menu development or recipe scaling.
- Familiarity with food cost control and inventory management.
- Knowledge of seasonal ingredients and local markets.
- Background in fine dining or Michelin kitchens — not required, but we love great technique.
Schedule
- 5 days a week, weekends required
- Some flexibility is required for special events (and in general: we are a startup!)
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Paid time off
- Free or discounted Square Fare meal plan
- Opportunities for professional growth and culinary development
- Equity options for long-term team members
- A creative, supportive team culture built around health, innovation, and collaboration
- At Square Fare, you’ll have the freedom to be creative, the stability of predictable hours, and the chance to make a real difference in how people eat and feel.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $75,000 - $100,000
