Job description
The Category Assistant plays a key role on the Procurement team, helping keep Farm to People’s products, data, and storytelling accurate, organized, and engaging. This position blends creative merchandising with strong analytical skills, supporting everything from website updates and product launches to reporting and category insights. It’s a hands-on role that works closely with vendors, data, and internal teams to bring our assortment to life and keep operations running smoothly. Partnering with operations, creative, marketing, and finance, the Category Assistant helps ensure product updates, promotions, and reporting are accurate, on-brand, and on schedule.
Responsibilities
Merchandising Support
- Keep product listings up to date on the website, ensuring pricing, descriptions, and producer details are accurate and clear.
- Help organize and maintain product categories so the shopping experience stays intuitive and engaging.
- Support seasonal and promotional campaigns by preparing product lists, updating pricing, and coordinating with the creative and marketing teams.
- Gather product information, images, and assets from vendors for new item launches.
- Write and proof short, engaging product and producer copy that highlights quality and story.
- Track and report on promotions and featured items to help the team understand performance and customer response.
Administrative & Analytical Support
- Maintain accurate product data in internal systems, including costs, case packs, and vendor details.
- Assist with vendor communication by collecting paperwork, certifications, and product documentation.
- Help monitor purchase orders, item updates, and product availability across departments.
- Prepare spreadsheets and reports to support category reviews, pricing analysis, and weekly updates.
- Support the team in keeping digital files and vendor records organized and current.
- Jump in on cross-team projects or special initiatives as needed to keep things moving smoothly.
Ideal Candidate
- 1–2 years of experience in merchandising, buying, marketing, or administrative support, ideally in grocery, retail, or e-commerce.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail. You take pride in keeping data clean, accurate, and up to date.
- Proficient in Google Sheets and Excel; you’re comfortable working with data, building formulas, and using spreadsheets to stay organized and solve problems.
- Experience with content management systems, ERPs, or other digital tools is a plus.
- Comfortable working in spreadsheets and digital systems; you enjoy spotting patterns and solving small problems before they become big ones.
- A strong communicator who can collaborate across teams and manage multiple tasks on deadline.
- Curious, creative, and eager to learn the ins and outs of category management, procurement, and merchandising.
- Excited about good food, local producers, and the stories behind great products.
Schedule
- Sunday to Thursday 9AM to 5:30PM.
Compensation & Benefits
- This position starts as hourly, paid $20 - $25 / hour depending on experience.
