Job Description: Packer / Finisher - Meatworks
Location: Westport, MA

Reports to: Lead Cutter / Operations Manager

Position Overview:
The Packer / Finisher at Meatworks is responsible for the final processing and packaging of meat products to ensure they are ready for retail sale or distribution. This role ensures that all cuts are correctly labeled, packaged in a visually appealing way, and stored or shipped in compliance with safety and quality standards. The Packer / Finisher will also participate in cross-training to support various plant operations and assist in special projects as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Final Processing & Packaging:
- Package finished cuts of meat into vacuum-sealed bags, plastic wrap, or other packaging materials.
- Ensure that each cut is accurately labeled with product information, including weight, type of meat, and production date.
- Present the final product in an attractive manner, ensuring it is ready for retail sale
2. Organization & Storage:
- Organize packaged products into trays, boxes, or other containers for storage or shipment.
- Keep track of packaged products, ensuring they are stored in the correct temperature zones (e.g., refrigeration) and moved to the appropriate next step in the process (e.g., shipping, customer pickup).
3. Cleanliness and Sanitation:
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all surfaces, tools, and dishes are sanitized to meet health and safety standards.
- Assist with the washing of all dishes related to the processing room.
4. Adherence to Safety and Compliance Standards:
- Follow all USDA safety regulations and guidelines to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to the Operations Manager immediately.
5. Special Projects:
- Assist the Operations Manager and plant management with special projects as assigned.
- Take on additional tasks as directed to ensure the overall efficiency of the plant and warehouse operations.
6. Cross-Training:
- Participate in cross-training opportunities to support various plant operations, including kill floor, processing, and grinding.
- Be willing and encouraged to cross-train in different departments, expanding knowledge and versatility within the plant.
7. Plant Collaboration:
- Support other departments as requested, ensuring smooth operations across the plant.
- Be flexible and collaborate with plant management and other teams to assist in achieving plant goals.
8. Assistance in Other Areas:
- Assist in other areas of the plant as needed, including box making, labeling, smoking, packing, and grinding.
- Support production and packaging teams with basic cleaning tasks or organizational duties.
- Help ensure work areas are ready for production and all necessary cleaning tasks are completed promptly to prevent delays.
9. Health & Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety guidelines and protocols, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals, personal protective equipment (PPE), and sanitation procedures.
- Comply with USDA food safety regulations and company policies to prevent contamination and ensure safe food production.
- Maintain cleanliness in accordance with Meatworks' quality standards and the requirements of regulatory agencies.
10. Inventory and Supply Management:
- Monitor and report the need for cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- Keep track of cleaning supplies and assist in ordering new materials as needed.
Ensure that cleaning materials and tools are organized and safely stored.
11. Other related assignments as necessary:
- Perform other duties as requested by management, including assisting with special projects or supporting plant operations as necessary.
- Maintain a flexible attitude and assist in maintaining a positive work environment across various departments.
12. Adherence to Safety and Compliance Standards:
- Follow all USDA safety regulations and guidelines to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to the Operations Manager immediately.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $15.00 - $16.00
