Company description
Hello! I’m Thomas, founder of Mr. Chompy Nut Butters (IG - @mrchompybutters).
We focus on lesser known nut butter bases and combinations like pecan butter and pistachio cashew butter. We strive to be as environmentally and socially responsible as possible in everything we do. Most of our ingredients are organic and they are all sourced either directly from the grower or from a Fair-Trade Co-op like Equal Exchange. We use glass jars, which we re-sanitize and re-use if customers bring them back. And the company car is electric!
Our mission is to elevate the perception of even artisan nut butters. They are a high-energy, nutrient-rich treat that have the potential to deliver some of the most satisfying gastronomic experiences imaginable. When you taste our product, you’ll know what we mean!
A note on almonds: because they require a lot of water to grow, so we use them sparingly. We also only stone-grind them which results in a richer butter that you don’t have to use as much of.
Job description
We’re looking for a Production Lead and Farmers Market Lead / Brand Ambassador. If you wore both hats, it would be easier to get the product to you that you would bring wherever you’re selling it. But if you’re only interested in one of the roles, that’s fine too!
The FML / BA role consists of:
Receiving or picking up the product
Setting up the table and tent (if its an outdoor market)
Actively sampling the product
Keeping track of what’s being sold
Packing up the setup
Because nut butters are somewhat of a niche product at a farmers market, we have to be proactive about getting people to sample the product (presenting them with a tray of prepared samples, engaging with everyone who might be interested, and maintaining a highly presentable booth). Fortunately, the product sells itself.
The Production Lead role consists of:
Washing dishes
Weighing ingredients and loading baking sheets
Loading/unloading the oven
Grinding the nuts with a food processor or stone-grinder (machine)
Labeling and filling the jars
Unloading and loading my car
For now, I would be training you on how the product is made, and will be with you for the whole shift. Hopefully, this would transition into you training another hire to be your helper so I can focus on business development. At this point, you would be paid more.
While the oven is on (~40-70% of the shift), the kitchen can get hot (~80-85 degrees).
Requirements:
Food Handler Certificate within 30 days of starting
Ability to lift 45 LBs
I am currently rehabilitating from some knee issues and it’s best I sit while working as much as possible. So to the extent that efficiency allows, you would be handling the standing tasks like loading the oven and washing the dishes.
Brass Tacks:
Pay is $25/hour (200/8 hour shift, 100/4 hour shift)
FML / BA have the option of taking a little less per hour in exchange for a commission bonus.
Kitchen address: 3212 E Olympic BLVD Los Angeles, CA 90023 (Boyle Heights)
Shifts are usually 8AM-4PM, 9AM-5PM, or 10AM-6PM
30% discount on the product
Feel free to contact me with any questions!
