The Farm School Inc. is a youth centered 36 year non-profit organization with a mission of connecting people to the land. The 4 major areas of our organization are:
The Program for Visiting Schools and Summer Program, which brings youth to the farm for overnight trips and to engage with all aspects of the farm (small animal livestock, diary, gardens, forestry and the kitchen).
The Chicken Coop School is our year round Middle School open to local 7th and 8th graders that includes farm life as part of its curriculum.
-Our Food Donation program brings over a thousand of pounds of meat, eggs, milk and veggies to our local community, seniors, co-op market, partner school community in the Boston area and to the Nipmuc tribe.
-The Nipmuc Land Project is dedicated to providing the space for Nipmucs to direct a process of connecting back to their ancestral lands where the Farm School resides.
-We are seeking individuals who get joy from sharing their love of land and farming with young people.
Job description
Barn/Livestock Farmer Teacher
Share your love and interest for livestock farming with kids grades 5 and up during 2.5 overnight visits on a beautiful Ridgetop farm with Mountain Views in Central, MA.
Join the Barn/Livestock crew and provide stewardship to a small herd of dairy cows, goats, pigs, laying hens (chickens), beef herd and lambs alongside youth contributing to a working farm. Throughout the day, as a Barn Farmer Teacher, you will welcome and guide youth through the work of caring for livestock and collective stewardship of the land. You will also allow them to see the full scope and diversity of interest that farmers hold by sharing your interests and hobbies with them. The Program for Visiting Schools Teachers (the youth's classroom teachers) chaperone and supervise the kids overnight.
Farmer Teachers, Students and Classroom Teachers working together on land strengthens relationships and gives kids the space to be trusted as valuable contributors doing meaningful work, growing food for people in need.
People who also have experience with performing arts, theater, music and experiential learning are encouraged to apply.
On the job chainsaw, felling, carpentry and tractor training is provided. The key requirement is that you find joy, fulfillment and purpose when you work with youth!

Salary is based on experience. Intern $36,000, Beginning Farmer Teacher $38,500, Farmer Teacher $41,000. This is a Full Time Year Round Position.
