Whisper Hill Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm located in beautiful Scottsville, Virginia. Entering our 17th season, we intensively grow 5 acres of certified organic vegetables. You can find our seasonal harvest, from vibrant greens to delicious tomatoes, through our convenient credit-based CSA program and local farmers' markets in the Charlottesville area.

Our fields are certified organic, meaning we utilize healthy ecological methods—including crop rotation and cover crops—while proudly avoiding all synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and GMOs. Job description
CSA & Market Specialist
We are seeking an organized, customer-focused, and dynamic individual to manage our mid-week market and CSA pick-up. The CSA & Market Specialist will be the primary liaison between the farm and its customers, overseeing the logistics, customer relations, and sales execution for both our CSA program and our local farmers' market presence.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
This role involves a blend of farm work, logistical coordination, customer engagement, and sales management:
CSA Program Management:
Member Relations: Serve as the primary contact for all CSA member inquiries, fostering a welcoming and positive experience.
Logistics & Distribution: Coordinate the packing, setup, and operations of CSA distribution at our mid-week market.
Administration: Manage member accounts, track sign-ups, update CSA ledgers to maintain balance records, and coordinate communications (newsletters, harvest updates, announcements) with members.
Farmers Market Management:
Sales & Merchandising: Manage the end-to-end market experience, including attractive booth displays, quality control of produce, inventory management, and maximizing sales potential.
Customer Engagement: Engage actively with market shoppers, share the farm's story, answer product questions, and encourage repeat business and CSA sign-ups.
Logistics & Operations: Handle all market finances (cash/credit transactions), and ensuring smooth setup and breakdown.
Data & Reporting: Track sales data, market trends, and customer feedback, reporting insights back to the farm management team to inform future crop planning and pricing.
Qualifications and Requirements
Previous experience in customer service, retail sales, or an agricultural setting is highly preferred. Experience with the CSA model is a significant advantage.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and prioritize effectively.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Must be comfortable performing physical labor, including standing for long periods and repetitively lifting up to 50 lbs in all weather conditions.
Proficiency with POS systems, email, and basic data entry (Excel/Google Sheets) is required.
Driver's license required to fulfill job duties.
A strong interest in organic agriculture and a commitment to the farm's values of hard work, diversity, and equity.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications (starting minimum of $3500 per month).
Benefits: Employees have unlimited access to fresh farm produce. Opportunities are available for exposure to other sustainable farms in the region through the local CRAFT network.
