Farm To People is a mission-driven startup determined to build a better food system by connecting consumers directly with the source of their food. Our online grocery delivery service specializes in sustainably-sourced, locally grown fresh produce and artisanally produced foods. Our customers can choose to subscribe and/or shop à la carte for delivery, available 7 days per week in all five boroughs of NYC, as well as select parts of New Jersey, Westchester, and Connecticut. We’re Brooklyn-based with our office and warehouse located in Bushwick.
Job description
This is an on-site position based in Brooklyn, NY and reports to the Kitchen Manager.
5+ years experience in a kitchen role, 1-2 years of kitchen lead experience is desired. Eager to learn, work hard and bring your creativity and positive attitude into our kitchen.
Your main duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare mise en place, cook and assemble dishes as indicated by recipes.
- Make sure all mise en place is created and stations are fully prepped so service runs smoothly.
- Organize and keep walk in clean, along with dry goods, and maintain inventory with First in First Out protocol.
- Inspect quality and freshness of food items, and follow recipes and preparation techniques.
- Perform daily inventory counts.
- Place ingredient and packaging orders.
- Organize, label and date all food items in storage per DOH standards and food safety guidelines.
- Train new team member to use our systems, follow processes, and hit goals.
Skills:
- Thorough product knowledge.
- Ability to lead others and delegate tasks.
- Make an adequate number of recipes per shift based on batch size.
- Capable of accessing information about market conditions and communicating it to customers.
- Understands spoilage and supply waste and how it affects department profits.
- Working knowledge and application of all merchandising expectations within the department.
- Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow Team Members, and vendors.
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and Team Members.
- Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organization skills.
- Passion for natural foods and the mission of Farm to People.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
- Understanding of and compliance with FtP quality goals.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.

Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
