Everyone is Welcome for a Meal
The Berkshire Food Project serves a hot nutritious meal, cooked from scratch from 11:30 – 1, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Our in-house dining combats social isolation by providing a welcoming safe space and connects our guests to resources within the community. Additionally, we offer two meals for our guests to take home with them beginning at 12:30 each day. Our meals are no questions asked, ALL are always welcome.
Job description
The Berkshire Food Project Inc., a 501c3 non-profit that has been providing meals to people in need and reducing social isolation in the Northern Berkshires for 40 years, is seeking an Executive Chef. This is a 30-hour-a-week position in a fast-paced, rewarding environment. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished cook with food safety certifications. The ability to lift 35 to 40 lbs. is required.
Must be a good communicator, a team player and able to work and interact with a wide variety of people, mostly all dedicated volunteers. Non-profit experience is preferred but willing to teach the right person.
Flexibility will be required, as well as the ability to be calm and civil under pressure.
Duties will include
preparing daily meals with an emphasis on nutrition and palatability
lunch service is Mon-Fri 11:30 - 1:00 serving approx. 250 - 300 meals daily with a one item menu created from donations and side(if possible). To-go meals are part of the meal count.
ensuring the proper storage, rotation, and handling of all food items
utilizing and organizing donated items
showing leadership and example to volunteers and volunteer groups
modeling proper hygiene and attire
educating volunteers on proper kitchen etiquette and food preparation skills.
commitment to BFP’s mission
weekend availability when needed (primarily in preparation for holiday meals)
The ExecutiveChef/Kitchen Manager will need to maintain a working knowledge of community resources and referral services and use this information when diners approach with needs.

Benefits: as BFP is a small, grass roots non-profit it is not able to offer health or dental benefits
Paid time off: Paid time off: 3 weeks PTO (90 hours) – unless unavoidable PTO is not be taken during the months of November-December as this is our busiest time of the year
Shift: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Pay Rate: $25/hr.
Driver's License (Preferred for assisting with job duties)
Food Safety Certification (Required)
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
