Better For Butchery (BFB) is a USDA-inspected meat processing, co-packing, and fulfillment company operating a 27,000 sq. ft. facility in Princeton, Kentucky. In 2025, BFB acquired the operating assets of Porter Road, a nationally recognized direct-to-consumer meat brand, and operates the processing and fulfillment infrastructure supporting PorterRoad.com, along with select third-party co-packing partners.
The facility provides end-to-end capabilities including fabrication (cut & wrap), processing, retail-ready packaging, cold-chain storage, inventory management, and nationwide fulfillment. Built on proven infrastructure that has supported $60M+ in historical sales and more than 500,000 fulfilled orders, BFB is focused on operational excellence, food safety, cost discipline, and long-term scalability.
Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled General Manager to lead operations at our 27,000 sq. ft. USDA-inspected processing facility. This strategically located plant supports our direct-to-consumer brand PorterRoad.com and provides processing, packaging, cold-chain storage, and distribution services for regional farmers, slaughterhouses, butchers, and co-packing partners.
The General Manager is responsible for multi-department oversight, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, cost control, team leadership, COGS ownership on the P&L and the continued growth and efficiency of our vertically integrated supply chain.
What You’ll Do
Operational Leadership
- Lead daily operations across slaughter, fabrication (cut & wrap), processing, packaging, cold storage, and cold shipping fulfillment and distribution.
- Ensure full compliance with USDA, HACCP, GMP, food safety, and traceability standards.
- Oversee QA/QC programs, SOPs, audits, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Uphold a safe, high-performance, accountability-driven culture.
Strategy, Budget & Performance
- Build and manage operating budgets, labor forecasts, and capital improvement plans.
- Track and report facility performance using KPIs: yields, throughput, labor efficiency, shrink, downtime, and equipment utilization.
- Drive process improvements, lean practices, and opportunities for automation to improve efficiency and product consistency.
Team Leadership
- Hire, develop, and mentor managers and supervisors across all departments.
- Build strong succession pipelines and ensure consistent training and development.
- Reinforce communication, safety, and high-quality standards across the facility.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with Procurement, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, and Finance to align production with business needs and forecasts.
- Support co-packing and private-label service expansion with reliable operations and capacity planning.
- Work closely with producers and external processors to ensure quality and supply consistency.
Facilities, Equipment & Compliance
- Oversee maintenance, sanitation, facility upkeep, and long-term infrastructure planning.
- Ensure audit readiness, documentation accuracy, and strong relationships with USDA inspectors.
- Maintain equipment reliability and plan for future capital needs.
What You Bring
- 7–10+ years of leadership in meat processing, food manufacturing, or a similar high-compliance environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of slaughter operations, fabrication, cold chain management, and packaging.
- Proven experience managing budgets, cost control, and P&L-related decisions.
- Deep familiarity with USDA regulations, HACCP systems, GMPs, and food safety protocols.
- Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Food/Meat Science, Animal Science, Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience.
- Comfortable with ERP/manufacturing systems, data analytics, and KPI-driven operational management.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and organizational leadership skills.
